OT - NO POLITICS Rainy Weekends Always Get Me Down edition

Got a crew coming tomorrow to deliver and build a 12x14 shed. My plan was to leave a cooler of waters and gatorades out back, and let them know the basement door is open, bathroom is just inside to the left. Leaving a roll of paper towels and shop rags down there as well.

A couple friends of mine are laughing at this, calling me crazy and saying it’s overkill.

Am I crazy? Or is this just a VERY basic hospitable gesture that I think it is?

Oh I’d totally do that.

We live on a dead end at the top of a hill. All the plow drivers know they can park at the top of our street during a storm, get a cup of coffee, and we’ll throw their wet outerwear in the dryer while they warm up.

We don’t do it for favors, but the mouth of our driveway is always miraculously cleared 🤷🏻‍♀️

What is the one toy or game from your childhood that you never played but would still like to try?

My boys had this a few years ago, and like every other toy, the modern version is insanely cheapened. Not that it was ever a robust forever-toy, but the new versions of EVERYTHING are always chincy

My answer though is probably Fireball Island

With all due respect, your friends are assholes.
Anyone coming to do anything at my place has bottled water, coffee or tea as they want it. And shown where the bathroom is if needed.

I can't think of a toy or game I wanted but didn't get to play, off-hand. I wish I still had Merlin. And I'm trying to talk myself out of buying the "new" Retro Atari systems lol. Don't need to be spending money on that, but would love to play some of the old Atari games again.

Still remember when ET came out and the neighbor kid across the street got the Atari game before we did. lol

It's very thoughtful of you.

Ain't no shame in holding onto grief, as long as you make room for other things too.

I forever grieve my friends who are no longer here. Im bout to be 40 soon and some of them didnt even see 30. I feel like im on borrowed time honestly and dont even know why Im still here sometimes.

I miss my friend Bob. Miss my lil brother and miss all the ones gone too soon.

This is the right thing to do.

1. It is human decency.
2. Contractors are in demand and remember who treats them well. They'll come back if you have another job.

I will never understand the people who get mad at the local meteorologists because they didn’t get any severe storms or tornadoes. Seriously people?!!

Had the storms to our south formed later than they did, it would have been a much different story.

I always give them cold water. I just had a new washer delivered . My driveway is very steep and they couldn't get the truck up, so they had to just wheeled it up (plus take the old one away). It was wicked humid out. I gave the two guys a cold bottled water. They seemed pleasantly surprised.

A few years ago, I had a new roof installed. I left a cooler full of ice, water and sodas out for them.

Why wouldn't you?

did the same last summer when we got our water heater replaced. 110* days and they were working in the garage. made sure to put out a cooler of gatorades and chips and showed them the bathroom just inside the door to the house.

We did the same about 10 years ago. New roof installed, in the summer in a heat wave. We put out a cooler of Gatorade and Water. Then the wife fired up the grill to provide burgers and dogs.

Those guys were melting in the heat.

Ahhh, the desert. :) My husband thought he's help our moving truck unpackers when we moved in in July 2018--it was 116. He helped for 10 minutes and they guys made him sit down.

I make our landscaper pbj sandwiches with a drink on a regular basis. Our Arborist came over for beef wellington. Kindness is never wrong.

@TD Charlie, don't let anyone tell you that being a good human isn't the right thing. ;)

Not crazy at all. I did the same for the guys who packed my pod and the guys who moved me both times last year. They were so shocked and were so appreciative. Even if they don’t take you up on your offerings, your effort is 100% appreciated. Your friends should follow your example. You are good people CD :)

The speed in which this was put up has left me at a loss

With the world the way it is kindness and being a decent person is rare and surprising
