Are we expecting Gudas to be part of the top-4 with top-4 minutes?

  • Gudas ATOI
    • 2019-20: 16:44
    • 2020-21: 17:34
    • 2021-22: 18:01
    • 2022-23: 17:22

How will the extra minutes affect his play on the ice throughout the season? Gudas played 3rd pairing with Florida.
I noticed that too... I think having him play 20+ minutes would reduce his effectiveness and may also increase the likelihood for injuries. Ideally we sign another minute muncher like Dumba and have him anchor our 3rd pairing, and play up as needed.

I am concerned about this as well. I like the signing and think it's exactly what the Ducks need. However, he really shouldn't be on the top pairing with Fowler. Ideally, the Ducks get two top 4 defensemen and Gudas is on the 3rd pairing. For example, they sign Dumba 1 x 5.5 and trade with Boston for 1 year of Forbort.

Fowler-Dumba
Forbort-Drysdale
Lacombe-Gudas
This makes sense to me, if we can pull it off.

It's a good question. Even with those minutes, he still couldn't put together a full season.

I would expect that to at least continue in his tenure here, if not get worse as he ages. I like the signing, but it isn't without legitimate concern.

If Verbeek wants to overcook our D prospects, he'll still need to bring in another one or two defensemen.

2019-20 COVID shortened season had only 69 games played max for Washington, 91.3%. Playoffs was 5/8 games, 62.5%.
2020-21 COVID season had only 56 games max, 96.4%. Playoffs was 6/6 games, 100%.
2021-22 season was a normal 82 game season, 93.9%. Playoffs was 10/10 games, 100%.
2022-23 season was a normal 82 game season, 87.8%. Playoffs was 21/21 games, 100%.

Last year was his first year under 90% games played, but did play all 21 playoffs games.

We recently signed Hagg to join our D corps, who has played depth defenseman last year with Detroit. Maybe Hagg is an improvement over Beaulieu, Benoit, and Harrington?

Vaaks

If PV still has some faith in Vaaks, then that could be it for our blue man group next season, but probably not celebrated like the Blue Man Group.

I think we may be writing White off a little too soon. IIRC he had three basic stretches of play last season, one (with Strand) he looked pretty good, two (with Klingberg, then post-deadline on his off side with Beaulieu) he was playing with a handicap, and he was serviceable enough and decent on the PK.
Not that I'm saying he should be in the top four, but I'd be interested to see what he can do in the bottom pairing with a halfway decent partner and system rather than relegating him to 7 or 8 right away.

I'm hoping that we are able to swap White's contract. He is similar to Mahura (likely worst...) and isn't talented offensively or tough to play against defensively. I'd prefer to swap with a physical dman so that throughout the season we can give our offensively talented dman some opportunities.

Dont blame him at all

Anaheim is more laid back, and it's not like they are out for blood when things go wrong, look at this past season. Still feel a calmness even after such a horrible season.

I was at the games in March, fans were into it still and you didn't feel like it was the end of the world there. It was more like yeah we suck now but the future looks great.

By the way: damn you Leo! When I refreshed the page and only saw the green backsplash on "Confirmed With Link" I assumed for a millisecond it was the Terry signing, but then it was this thread :(

Edit: In light of recent events I no longer wish Leo's soul to be damned.

I will take full credit for the 7 and 7 Terry signing, which is an excellent deal. ;)

Ok, Ill say it here instead of in the main board topic because, well, Im sane. Its funny watching all of the Canadian fans talk about how "Well thats because hes soft" or "Well thats because he doesnt like winning" and yet the last time a Canadian team won anything was.... 30 years ago?

Canadian teams dont win, they are more stressful aaaaaaaand the taxes suck. Plus other political reasons that some players may want to avoid the country.

I think we need to give Cronin his due as well, but Gudas certainly is a part of changing the culture here. I mean I saw Zegras and Terry at least try to wrap a guy up after Minty stood up for himself and Gudas went over to police.
I also remember seeing him give a WOOOO to the bench after fighting somebody and everyone on the bench was hyped with him lol
