Imagine landing a job 99% of people in your field would kill for and getting fired because you can't shut the f*** up.

FA is a piece of shit and he's rightfully going to answer for whatever he's proven guilty for, but Doerrie has a track record of saying whatever she wants and assuming there won't be consequences. I'm a young professional in a field of much older colleagues and contemporaries - I may be technically on their level but if I try to come in and reinvent the wheel, I shouldn't be surprised when people try to take me out.

I was destroyed by some on here for criticizing the team when they hired her. Doerrie made up a completely fabricated BS rumour about EP then was hired by the team a few months later lol. She’s a loudmouth grifter and that was obvious from the very beginning. Not surprised at all that she’s been canned and the team is better off for it.
I don't get this logic. If you are using her reporting on EP as a data point in her hiring, you have to believe one of two things:
1. The story about EP was completely made up, and even though the discussion of it on the podcast was a buzzy piece of news in Vancouver, it never came up at any point in the vetting process. And if it did come up, the management group was content to hire an overtly untrustworthy liar to add to their burgeoning team, knowing that this hiring of a young woman would receive coverage across hockey (buzzy coverage doesn't seem like something that one would want when hiring someone you know to be untrustworthy)
2. The story had some truth to it and the management group took that into context when considering her as a possible hire, knowing that her hiring as a woman in hockey would receive a sizeable amount of scrutiny, so they would have to be even more sure.

Basically either management are a bunch of dopes who can't effectively vet their hires, or there was enough truth to the story to justify the reporting on it. I would guess the latter

Probably well deserved if true. Doerrie has no professionalism whatsoever. I don’t doubt she’s smart but she needs to learn to shut her goddamn mouth/stop posting for five seconds.
Good lord the animosity underlying here. As always, we can point to Brian Burke as someone who has created a brand on being a far bigger asshole. Doerrie hasn't even really been unpleasant, just opinionated. "Shut her goddamn mouth" jesus christ is this the 1950s

Wait can you point to where Burke made false rumours as a 20 something? I can’t believe I’m reading this crap

Do explain
While the Thin Blue Line design might not overtly be a symbol of hate like a swastika, I definitely understand why someone would feel that way. The thin blue line shit became a "thing" mostly in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement, which in its essence was a call for accountability for police forces that had become occupying forces in many communities, acting without repercussions for decades. The thin blue line was something for cops to hide behind, to say that "we have a hard job and plz stop criticizing me", which while its true that the job is hard, its insane to say "i should be able to make life-ending/altering mistakes without reproach".

Much of the expansion of the thin blue line/blue lives matter shtick was also spread as a less overtly racist way to say "I disagree with the concept of black lives matter", as instead of being against one group, they just threw in all their support with the other group, which in the end is the same thing.

JT Miller wearing the hat is likely not a purposefully political statement on his part, maybe he just knows a few cops and wants to support them. But it's also not completely insane to hope that Miller might have more sense and tact with how he acts/presents himself now that he has accepted the big extension with the Canucks, given that he will be a franchise feature attraction in a quite liberal market like Vancouver

No I can't, but I also didn't say that I could?. This comment I made was not in relation to any assumption that she created false rumours. It was someone saying that she should just shut up, with the insinuation there being that she talked her way out of the job by being out over her skis and pissing people off. It's inarguable that there are other people in hockey who get ahead by doing this same stuff, but they're all men

I don't care about the animosity part, but this Brian Burke comparison is flat out dumb.

Burke is nearly 70 years old, has been in the league for nearly 40 years and won a Cup. Rachel Doerrie is a 25-year-old nobody trying to break into the league. There is simply no comparison here.

This has nothing to do with gender or anything. If you're a young, up-and-comer you should just shut your mouth and do your job regardless of industry etc. Once you have some achievements to your name, or some kind of track record of success, maybe you can think about being a bit of a rogue element.

This must be a generational thing, as I assume most people on this board are millennials.

Good explanation. I'm not going to get into the intention behind the original Blue Line flag as it may have it's basis in something that could be respected but it really ended up being a direct response to Black Lives Matter as the symbol for Blue Lives Matter. Black Lives Matter movement came about after the acquittal of Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin shooting and really came to the forefront in Ferguson, MO in the summer of 2014 after the death of Michael Brown. The blue line symbol came in December 2014 after the homicides of two New York officers that came in the wake of the death of Eric Garner ("I can't breathe") from an officers chokehold (ruled a homicide). Since then the blue line flag has become a mainstay at far right rallies. The Blue line/Blue Lives Matter and BLM are in inextricably linked in way that makes the thin blue line flag a bad idea to be honest.

Now with that said. I guarantee the BULK of people don't actually know that history or know about these links. Many simply think it means you support officers in the job they do and are honoring those that fell in the line of duty. Which is why you have to talk to the person with that symbol to know their thinking and to present the other side.

If I remember correctly she was doing her Masters and was suppose to finish this Summer and then join the team in Vancouver come Sept.

This is the second time she has been let go suddenly and I think that means she isnt going to find another job in an NHL front office any time soon.

The timing of her “departure” and the Aquilini business is not a coincidence…

You got proof or just speculation?

If it’s speculation, going to nip this in the bud now.
No speculative posts on why. No celebrating or bragging. Keep it civil.

I find this whole situation fascinating, entertaining and kinda hilarious for some reason. Especially since they just said she was promoted, it's only been 8 months, and the timing, and that this is not the first time!

Details have to come out eventually and im very curious to find out.
Probably wont be as interesting as expected but maybe .

Just speculation my bad.

Wonder if the Canucks PR address this at all? They do love to put out statements on Friday around 3-4 pm..

Simpson is careful to say "left" the organization. Leaving it ambiguous to whether or not she left as her choice.

Anyway I'm sure it'll leak out in bits what's really going on. Found this tweet interesting though.

That is a VERY interesting tweet coming from Charron. Curious if they really are just giving lip service to analytics. Wouldn’t surprise me given all the other hires have been fairly standard hockey people.

I do think it was interesting that this was liked/retweeted by someone within that scouting community. Someone who would definitely have been in an around the same types of people Doerrie would have within the amateur scouting community.

Again, let’s not speculate on why. Now that there’s some confirmation something will eventually get out pretty soon.
