What I have learned the last couple of weeks:

* Sucking is awesome
* Injuries are good for the team

One of the things I don't get, is how this team with its offense, is now outshooting the other team, and scoring FAR less?

We aren't getting as many odd man rushes anymore. Spending too much time in the offensive zone.

lol

tbh if im trying to get McDavid, kessel is one of the players imo that would have to go the other way for a team to even consider trading that pick. McDavid-Kadri-Bolland... now theres a center core that can win a cup.

So you trade your best player for the CHANCE of drafting McDavid?

I understand the frustration but I personally don't move Phil. I'd sooner move Kadri, I'm starting to think that all that flash won't mean anything in the long run (Ribeiro)

Kadri is physical and gritty. Riberio is not.

McDavid isn't a possibility. Well technically he is if the team misses the playoffs since everyone has a shot at the lottery, but the odds would be really slim. This team won't suck enough to be bottom 5 either.

Which is cool, that doesn't take away from the fact that when he was drafted many people compared the 2 for playing styles regardless of grit. Kadri will not be the player that Centers us to the promise land. But that is solely my opinion.

If MLSE wanted to finish in the draft lottery bottom 5 then they wouldn't have fired Burke.

He lead the team to bottom 5 overall finishes in 2 of his last 3 seasons. .That is why we have Morgan Rielly (5th overall) today and could have had Tyler Sequin (2nd overall) with picks earned through his assembled teams tanking successfully.

Now with Nonis in charge the team is drafting from a playoff position and our tanking days are over..

I don't know if this has been brought up but isn't Mcdavid in the 15 draft? You guys are jumping the gun.

Figured this was worth a bump. Leafs still playing like poo after the Christmas break. Nothing has changed.

The Leafs aren't sleeping or in a slump. This is the Leafs.

Time to scoreboard watch. We don't really have to hope for the Leafs to tank. They are on auto-tank since Game 1...but our god damn goalies have kept us in games!

Hope teams below us start winning more games.

We need to go all in this season.

Top5 Pick
Trade Kessel
Trade Dion
Dump anyone that doesn't factor into long term goals at deadline.

The future is now.

Just don't think this is possible. The team won't outtank Edmonton, Buffalo, Calgary, Florida and the Islanders. So that already knocks us out of the top 5. A lot of other subpar teams that would all have to really improve. The team hasn't been good of late, but in the last 7 games starting with Chicago, they have only had one stinker vs. Florida.

In the other 6, while they haven't been great, they've played better. 3-2-2 with a chance of being 5-2 if a couple shootout goals went in. Team is on a 93 point pace in thse games.

We're starting to outshoot teams and are slowly giving up fewer shots. The 6-1 Leafs were overachieving but from mid November to the St. Louis game, they were underachieving, things tend to regress to the mean. Injuries are healing, January has a lighter sched. There will be no tank. Maybe no playoffs, but no top 5 either. 10-14 seems likely. Which sucks lol.

too good to suck, too sucky to be good, that's our Leafs! :thumbu:

if we miss the playoffs - i do think we have the pieces to swap places with a team (cough, Edmonton, Cough, Islanders) pick wise.

We had the chance to do a proper rebuild but didn't. To late now. Now it's a matter of re-tooling, and finding hidden gems. Couple pieces here and there, and we will be alright.

Elliot Friedman said last night on CBC that the general consensus around the league is that the Leafs are two years away from being seriously competitive, as many of our younger players (Kadri, Bernier, Rielly) will have time to have learned the game. Something I have been preaching. Patience, we are still too young.

In two years we will have a nice mix of vets and youth - and hopefully a winning culture. Tanking and a losing culture is cancer. We have many great pieces already. Winning culture is what is needed.

I'm glad you are so convinced. But Reilly will be better than Dion. Will JVR or Kadri be "better" than Kessel? Will Bernier be the best goalie in hockey? But who cares. It's about team, not individuals.

The greatest folly of youth is being convinced that you are always right. I wish I had your crystal ball and wisdom. Well, actually, I don't.

hey The Caveman, can you put that into context - what were they talking about, and how did that conversation come about?

Sure. It was a roundtable during the 1st intermission of last night HNIC. each commentator took a Canadian club, and Freidman had the Leafs.

The quote was excat.. that around the league, general consensus was that Leafs needed two more years for players... Kadri, reilly and bernier to further develop. he did mention Bernier and not Reims, so he seems to think that Bernier is considered that future, albeit that he hasn't played a full season yet.

Healy asked Freidman if he thought the leafs were a playoff team this year. His answer was the he was unsure.

Same ol, same ol.

Well, does this team look like a playoff team to you guys?

Is there anyway this team can conceivably make the playoffs if the goaltenders don't carry them there?

Kessel was MIA again as usual.

Ahh I was looking for this one, forgot the name of the title, thanks Newfoundlander. I think this should be the official one used so there aren't 5 new ones each game.

12th pick, could be 11th if Washington holds on.

EDIT: They Held on, NJ forfeit. Its 10th pick.

Toronto 47
Ottawa 46
New Jersey 45-forfeit
Nashville 44
Winnipeg 43
Columbus 42
Florida 40
NY Islanders 39
Calgary 36
Edmonton 33
Buffalo 29

Forget the playoffs.

Is this team even close to playing like a hockey team...

I don't even know what sport they are playing out there, it sure doesn't look like hockey.
