I knew he was in our system but never paid any attention to him. He looks really good in the very little I've seen of him in this preseason. A big tall dman who can skate and can handle the puck.

The other thing to consider about Mancini is that he hasn't played much in his career to date, and what we're seeing in terms of his ability is more of an evolution even from when they drafted him.

The offensive side he's shown in these preseason games is even more of a recent development, though certainly encouraging.

I've liked what I've seen of him, and perhaps they give him a cameo to start, but I think it's worth tempering expectations. I certainly don't see him as being obviously better than Lindgren or Trouba yet (and I'm definitely not a fan of Trouba), but he might be a worthy right-side replacement for Trouba next year.

Oh man, OTG! Brings me backup to like 20 years ago I used to post there but it didn't have quite the volume I like.

This has to be wrong. Mancini doesn't have to go through waivers yet.

Here's an overview of how waiver exemption is calculated.

Mancini signed at age 21. He loses waiver exemption once he plays:

- 80 NHL games, or
- Completes 3 years after signing (July 1st, 2027)

So basically he won't play a full season this year, although if he deserves it, he should

I doubt he plays enough to hit that mark in his first pro season.

Cuylle (Who has to hit 160) is going to most likely get there unless there are some injuries. He's at 81 now. He needs 79 to lose waiver exemption.

4th round: Väisänen, Laba
5th round: Berard, Chmelař, Mancini
6th round: Edström, Rempe, Roobroeck

They aren't all going to hit but it's nice to see at least some excitement about our late picks.
More than the early picks Kakko Robertson etc 🙄

I actually think Mancini had a better preseason than Schneider. I'm not drawing conclusions from it since it's preseason but it's something I'd note here. The kid was impressive. Schneider is a proven NHLer at this point so there really isn't a comparison yet but at the very least I think we can feel pretty good about potential Tuba replacements in the future.

Glad to eat crow on Mancini so far

Yeah preseason is...preseason and most of the time you can't really take away a lot from a rookie going all out to impress and a "vet" just warming up for the season. I mean, even if the vet like Schneider probably wouldn't say he's just going through the motions, that's kind of what's going on. If you know your job isn't on the line then your goal in preseason is just getting in some icetime and reps and not getting injured. If you're a rookie and know you're auditioning for a job, you're going all out. It's a weird imbalance.

Anyways, not totally joking about Mancini as the next McDonagh, though unlikely he'll reach that #1 defenseman status, but a big mobile defenesman who didn't put up a lot of points in college but turns out to have some skills and is strong defensively....it's intriguing for sure

McDonagh had 12, 16, 18 points in college and was a 1st round pick for a reason. Mancini had 5, 8 and 10 points in the NCAA big different.

He is example of playing to the level of his competition and teammates in college.. the game is a lot easier when you have the ability to to play and play with alot better players..

Big , strong, skilled and fast.....hard to find much wrong at this stage . He made some nice offensive moves in the Wing game . He will get tested and he will make mistakes....that will happen but it is part of the learning curve......same as our 4th line guys . The team must support them along with the fans . It will enable us to retain our draft picks moving forward and in the end we will be a better club for it . Somebody obviously had this guy down as a worthy risk at the draft . Hopefully that scout is still in house .
