Some days my wife is untouchable but for the Kings the right price makes anyone touchable.

As a Kings fan a lot of posters from other fan bases, hell even our own fan base were ready to write off Byfield a few months ago.

Now he is starting to live up to his potential and lots of people want him including the Kings.

The Kings are a cap team and will rely on these entry level deals to get them through the next few years until the big contracts and bad contracts are done.

Kopitar has one more year at 10.5. Quick and has 5.8 are done this year and we have Peterson’s 5 mil down in the minors with 2 years left. Byfield is quickly becoming a staple on our first line and has reinvigorated Kopitar and Kempe. Next year Clark hopefully steps into Walkers spot.

For the contract savings alone that maybe makes those prospects close to untouchable?
 
Maybe someone like Nemec but the Devils add a piece or pick. Maybe these two are close in value once Nemec is in the NHL full time but today, Byfield has a bit more value IMO.

Could be Tage Thompson or a bust

But the kings are one of the worst organizations for young players development and have a horrendous offensive strategy so who knows

They may have already ruined him

Also playing on a perrenial treadmill team that loses in the first round and prioritizes vets over young player development hasn’t helped him or Brandt clarke

Look at Gabe villardi in Winnipeg the kings had almost ruined him too

I'm a firm believer that players with talent, who go through bad development management, end up overcoming it in the long haul. But the issue with that is over the long haul, it might be with another team. Patience is required regardless of false or correct hope IMO. It's hard to tell what they will do from 25+ and the 18-24 range can be a rollercoaster ride.

Hunger to improve is the best development ingredient IMO. If they have the hockey IQ to comprehend the challenges and the obsession to improve, they will reach their ceiling. Most of those top 10 picks have skill

Not many shine right away. Those are rare.

I'd definitely trade for him, but LA wouldn't want the main return to be futures, so that likely has Montreal out unless a team wants futures and a three way trade can be done where the habs pay some futures to LA and the rest to the 3rd team while LA gets that roster player, or players.

Well for starters when I say a ton there is an implied relativity to it. I don't think he has the value of someone like Necas.

At this point he has established a floor as a half point per game player however at 22 his prime is still ahead of him. Between his size, skating and skill there is a ton of potential still there. So we're talking about a guy who who can give you at least 45 points, has potential for more and has a few years of team control.

Getting a young, 45 point player who could still grow to a lot more than that will catch every single teams interest. That's not to say bidding war would go supersonic, but every team would be picking up the phone.

At absolute worst I think the King would be getting a 1st and a solid prospect (at that point they're better off betting on QB imo). I think multiple teams would offer that kind of deal so the Kings could pick the package that gives them the prospect they like most.

Alternatively, when you look at some of the big names available to trade, if the Kings were to dangle QB for say, Pettersson, they'd be near the front of the line in negotiations. They'd have to add, but as a starting point, I don't think many teams can match that.

With guys like Byfield I think their perceived value gets lost in the shuffle. He was an insanely high pedigree player and he hasn't yet lived up that hype but it doesn't mean there isn't still a legit useful piece there.

This is what happens when a projected young star player takes a step back offensively.. I would counter and say he has rounded his game and is on his way to becoming a complete 2-way player. The Kings have a history/habit/talent at neutering offensive talent but I have no doubt he’ll be just fine

No one is giving up three first round picks for Byfield, but you don't stop there. Roy is a tweener with promise still. But a tweener. Dvo's in his last year and Montreal has plenty of cap space. They don't need to add to dump Dvo.

...if at all possible, I wouldn't want to offer Slafsquatch; the Habs would just have to go out and try to find another player of his ilk (possible ilk, I suppose, as he's not even close to done growing his game)...Dach could replace Hage and one of the 1sts in the deal:

To Montreal: C Quinton Byfield

To LA: C/RW Kirby Dach, one of Montreal's 1sts, LW/RW Joshua Roy, C Christian Dvorak (cap)

Habs won't be going there. Even if they did, why would they add? Trajectories have been similar. Slaf is their guy.

Byfield is a center and offers slight cap relief. Again, just an outsider here

EDIT: Is Byfield not playing center anymore? Haven't really been watching kings games..
