We're not trading a #1 defenseman, even if he isn't quite on the level of Makar. He's the sort of player you build around, not trade away for uncertainties.

The 'he's bad defensively' line is incorrect too. Sure, offense is where he really thrives, but he's been solid all over the ice this year. He's +9 on a team that was a mess until Boudreau came in. Last season's Canucks were a tire fire, and his performance wasn't representative of who he is as a player.
He's been better under Boudreau, but lets face it, he's very much sheltered.

He’s not good enough defensively but is still really good offensively (Tyson Barrie 2.0 it looks like), but he’s still got a lot of value. Knowing he isn’t a true #1, would the package he could bring to Vancouver be more valuable to them going forward than if they were to keep him?

How is this thread going, clear troll post from an avs fan hanging onto an old grudge.

Hughes has been our best player between all forwards and defense, just like im sure makar has been avs best player.

Lol. This is a pretty bad take. Have you checked his stats or watched him play one game this year? He has been good defensively and is absolutely a #1 at this point. He is the only truly untouchably player on the Canucks roster imo.

This. . . The OP is purely a take from last season, Hughes has been very good at both ends of the ice this year

Hahaha
What a swing and a miss.
For fun and to try to not be a jerk,
Basically Quinn was super embarrassed y his poor defensive stats last year. He is a big hockey analytics guys and he hated the year he had.
Being the super competitive athlete that he is, he took that as a challenge to improve his defensive game.
I spent all of last year shitting on his D game. This year is completely different.
His d game is pretty awesome and he is playing like a true high end #1D.

He in priceless and will not be available.
End of discussion

Hughes has been remarkable on the defensive side of things this year. He leads the team in +/-, leads all Canuck skaters in ice time by more than 3mins per game, plays PP/ES/PK, leads all Canucks in possession numbers, etc.

This whole “Hughes isn’t good defensively” nonsense needs to stop, just watch the man play hockey and you’ll see how ridiculous it is. The only bad stretch of his career was last year when the entire team was a defensive tire fire.

wow this is such a garbage thread, in all honestly. Misleading and saying Hughes is not a #1 and Barrie 2.0. Mods should just close this thread.

Not to mention he would have made US olympics team if NHL players would have gone. The OP is out to lunch and this seems like a low key troll thread to get a reaction.

Ryan Graves led the NHL in plus/minus one year, let’s not use that as any supporting evidence to suggest a player is good defensively. It’s a bad stat.
I think you already show lack of hockey knowledge just by posting here about Hughes

i love that hughes lives in the head of so many avs fans as a focal point of their insecurities. it's like he is preordained to crush their dreams one day.
I bet if Avs won the cup, this guy would be the first on here making a thread regarding Hughes playing bad defense and not about Avs winning the cup.

It is the wildest phenomenon
Vancouver doesnt even discuss Hughes, like literally in the Vancouver section, his thread is is over a month old.
and the last 5 threads about hughes all involve colorado fans
The Avs fans discuss about Hughes so much here that Canucks fans dont even need to create a thread for him in the Canucks section:laugh:
Even the Myers hit on Lewis thread had something regarding Hughes getting hit.

Try and keep up to date on how a player is doing this season before posting garbage threads
