Player Discussion Quinn Hughes, Pt. VII

Well those cap numbers will change many things, but not Quinn's desire to play with his brothers and close to home.
If the Canucks offer 18 mil for 8 years in this tax environment and NJD offer 18 mil for 7 years is it enough to make playing with his brothers and winning or playing for two or three cups secondary?

Another consideration is the Canadian buck as income vs paying in US dollars. I think some people will have forgot what it used to be like before the cap.

If Quinn really wants to play with his brothers, theres no amount of money that can keep him.

That family is extremely well off and they will never have any money problems for many generations to come.

That being said, its not his last opportunity to play with his brothers. He can sign like a 4-5 year deal like Matthews and leave when hes around 31/32

I think if hes at that point and the Canucks are still not relevant, the fans would be happy for him to leave lol.

Aquaman seems to have no problem paying to the cap. I don’t think it would change now, even with the dollar tanking
But people might, no team products, less attendance, not as many sponsors/advertisers.

Today's dollar is .689 or 1.45 cdn per us buck.

The extension? Maybe he already did and that's why he signed a 6 year deal, with exactly those thoughts.

Why only play for maybe one cup when he might be able to play for 4, 5 or more with his brothers while in his prime

And a 4 or 5 year deal would have him 32 or 33 and on the backside of his career.

Family, yes very big for them, they may all still summer together

between 1997 and 2019, there were only three seasons a dman scored more than a pt/game

one was kris letang in the 2013 lockout year, and he missed thirteen games so a tiny sample (35 games)

the other two were mike green, who i think has started getting underrated for how incredible he was offensively

Dan Murphy: "Quinn how are you feeling because it looked like you were labouring a bit in that 3rd period."

Hughes: "Yeah we'll see, I have 48 hours to figure that out so we'll see how that goes."

...

F#$%.

He 100% needs to skip the 4 Nations. He needs that two weeks of rest.

Quinn better be the next guy to announce he isn’t going to 4N.
They better f***in let him go if he wants to.

You keep him as happy as possible.

He could aggravate his injury further, which not only would keep him out of the lineup for a playoff push, it would also prevent him from winning the Norris this season, and potentially contend for the Hart.

He's missed games against the Kraken (2x), Flames, Predators and Red Wings. All teams that he would've feasted on.

He easily puts up 7-8 points in those 5 games, which would have him 10 points clear of Makar and Werenski, while also being 5-6th in NHL league scoring.

A healthy Hughes is winning the Norris and fighting for the Hart.

There's a ton of personal benefit for him taking two weeks to rest and rehab, even beyond a Canucks playoff push (which I am sure he also cares about a lot).

I really hope he skips the 4 Nations tournament.

He's still got that brace on his hand.

Obviously he's not 100% healthy.

We need him 101% healthy if we're going to make the playoffs.

I hope he decides to sit out, or the team has a conversation with him about skipping it.

Two weeks of rest is a ton of time for a professional athlete and he could really benefit from it.
this is the right call. skip the useless 2 week tournment. rather stay healthy for the stretch drive and make the playoffs than playing at 40/50percent

Makar is now 3 points ahead of Hughes in 10 more games played.

Hughes really needs to skip the 4 Nations, rest and recover, and come back with a vengeance.

If he is healthy, he can easily reclaim the Norris that is rightfully his and if we make the playoffs, finish as a Hart finalist (they won’t give him the trophy though).

Hughes is the Canucks captain. He put the interests of the team first. He might have been able to play in the Four Nations, and even at 70 percent would still have been effective.

But another couple of weeks off for rest and rehab, and he'll be hopefully close to 100 percent for the last 27-game sprint. Oblique injuries are notoriously slow to come around--and Hughes made the right call, as much as it must have disappointed him to have to do it.

Its the right call by Captain Quinn.

It's such an interesting turn of events - Hughes needs to stay home so he can recover whereas Pettersson needs to go in order to find his game again. I'm looking forward to the return of NHL games more than this fake tension gimmick series.

hopefully the 3 week break is good for hughes and his injury heals quickly so he can be out there 100 percent with 28 games left for a playoff push.

I could stand corrected, but other than the Sedins and the Steamer, Stan Smyl, I'm trouble remembering anyone who spent their entire NHL career as a Vancouver Canuck. And retired with the blue and green still on their backs.

But Quinn Hughes needs to be the 'fourth' lifetime Canuck. Back up the Brinks truck, and give him whatever he wants. He's the franchise's first Norris Trophy winner and an automatic first ballot Hall-of-Famer, if he stays healthy.

It's a complete 'no brainer' that he spends his entire career in Vancouver.
