I don't care if Hughes is ever thought of as the best defenseman in the league, whether he is or isn't in any given year. He's absolutely the best Defenseman the Canucks have had. Unreal player just so fun to watch. Good for him hitting 5 points, he deserved to pad some stats with how he's played this year.

Nah those Makar defenders would say Makar is too good to compare and will compare Byram and Girard to Hughes and say how both of their dman is still better than Hughes 😆

You made it sound like that lol 😆

Just waiting for that spinoramma guy to somehow spin this thread into how Makar is better :naughty:
Oh yeah I forgot about him. I must've put him on my list sometime ago.

Laugh at me all you want. Right now with the way Hughes is playing he's the best Dman in the league.

Now let's see if he can keep it up for an entire season. Long way to go if he want to think about winning the Norris.

So far this season he’s the best player in the league, period.

He’s been the best defender in the calendar year of 2023.

Has been amazing this year. All Hughes brothers have been. Quinn is starting to put himself on the top superstar tier

Still got no chance at the Norris as long as Makar, Dahlin, Fox, and others are in the league. No chance, you hear me!

Was curious to see which defenders had gotten 5 points post lockout. Didn't expect it to be so many players. I remembered Dahlin, Fox, and Barrie getting 5 points but not any of the other guys. Interesting to see Grzelyck up there. I don't know if he's ever broken 30 points in a season, must've swapped jerseys with someone lol

As an Avs fan I'm gonna have to bring up Makar.

Hughes > Makar

I've been watching. He's been amazing.
I think in all seriousness we welcome the rivalry and look forward to the back and forth between Hughes/Makar/Fox for years to come. It's a golden age for elite defensemen, good to be in the VIP club with you guys.

Also, we can compare stats when everybody's played the Sharks. I take the 5 point game with a grain of salt, as impressive as it is.

Avs barely got by the Sharks lol they're only point this year is against the Avs. Makar only had a point in the game.

That's insane. I didn't realize. Either way...Makar is probably dealing with a nagging injury, his calibre of player doesn't regress at that age. And he's still 2nd in d-man points. Looking forward to our next matchup.

To be fair I said in another thread before the season started that Hughes was going to win the Norris this year. I’m not wrong, kid is a stud.

Quinn has been absolutely amazing this year. He controls the play as if the puck was on a string, toying around with oncoming forecheckers. Once he is pressured Hughes forces oncoming attackers to commit as he casually spins around to make a beautiful pass, or finds an opening with his elite skating. You can tell Hughes is taking Captaincy seriously, and is striving to get better and better. It is quite obvious that Quinn has worked on his shot in the offseason, which was formally the weakest aspect in his game. He was always timid and looking to pass rather than shoot. Today Hughes is looking to get a shot through whenever possible, looking a lot more comfortable and confident while shooting the puck, at a fairly high velocity. This season, thus far, Quinn has been a human highlight reel, and has been the most important player on the Canucks by miles. He really does look like a Norris caliber type of player. He truly is a delight to watch.

The poster who whines about Makar stans brings up Makar. Not at all a bait post.

Hughes has been lights out and I hope he can keep it up this year. The West is looking like a lot of haves and have-nots, which may prove boring. If the Nucks can get/stay up in that former group it should be a fun season.

Looks like the shoe is on the other foot, Avs fans are being incredibly classy and we are obsessing over Makar. Until Quinn gets a Norris and a Conn Smythe we're playing from behind. Let's just enjoy this and let the play on the ice do the talking.
