10 years ago, Eric Staal led the NHL in preseason goals with 7 before putting up 11 in his rookie year. Jeff Skinner scored 2 preseason points before winning the Calder Trophy in his rookie year.

And those are just examples from this team.

The Stanley Cup is ours! :sarcasm:

well it should be quite clear to the coaching staff by now who is of NHL caliber and who isn't.

I am disappointed in the play of the defense so far. I admit I expected better from them.

Westgarth out there now or on this team, or in the NHL is a joke. mind you, he plays as well as some do.

Going to be interesting to see the next round of cuts on Sunday. Corrente, Palushaj, Sutter, Jordan, Terry, Blanchard, maybe Bellemore would be my guesses. I think they'll still take a long look at the Dalpes and the Boychuks

personally, I don't think any of the Checkers qualify as NHL regulars. some as call ups but that's about it. Dalpe, Boychuk included. Nash and Bellmore could be first up. When will the experiment with these guys be over already?

Muller says the "door" probably has been shut for some players. Didn't name any names.

Who played tonight that that would apply to?

who? they all looked like crap. seriously. sign Gerbe, Dvorak for sure. get the team established and ready to go. quit screwing around with these guys. it's very clear who isn't an NHL player. Muller's just going through the motions I think. should just get the team together and ready now.

I agree. With 3 games played, and more importantly, 3 games left, it's clear who isn't going to make the team, so it's time to thin the herd and try to make things work with the guys who will make the team.

Calling preseason worthless is hilarious. A loss is a loss, especially a humiliating one like this. And if you believe differently, feel free to ask the players how they felt about tonight's game.

Yes, all these miscues and screwups don't matter NOW, since the results don't matter.

But if you think these screwups are going to be fixed by the time the results DO start to matter...

Not sure, since preseason is worthless and all. :sarcasm:

All I know is that if we cut everyone who has played like crap this preseason, we'd have some extra jerseys on Opening Night.

This is the part where I admit I'm an idiot and that BluelineBomber is/was correct.

We're done for this year. It was all downhill after taking Lindholm before Nichushkin. Canes better petition to join the AHL if they want to have a chance.

Before we get too upset, we should probably see one line we expect to see in the regular season first.

We haven't seen Tlusty-Staal-Semin. We haven't seen Staal-Ruutu. We're getting a steady diet of guys trying out for the 4th line and #13 forward.

When they have their actual forward lines, there might actually be some offensive zone time, and not just an endless wave of counter attacks as Westgarth/Welsh/Blanchard struggle to skate back up the ice.

The thing that IS troubling though is how slow Harrison/Gleason/Komisarek look. Hopefully there is some excuse, because that doesn't bode well.

Boychuk and dalpe, probably welsh are the most likely referenced by muller. Boychuk looked ok, don't stand out. Dalpe had one really nice one on one move that led to a nice shot, otherwise had no chemistry or flow. Welsh looked ok, didnt make obvious errors but hasn't made many good plays either. Pulashaj at least showed some hands, and being more of a vet may have a leg up. Gerbe and Dvorak have all the kids beat so far. Best Charlotte guy has been terry IMO. Corrente was pretty solid, in a positive note.

Tonight was just tough to watch, which can be typical of preseason. The only possession we generated was estaal and semin. Komi is fine to me. Yes he's slow, but he's aggressive and hard hitting. He's a project. He got tore up in TO and now we have to build him up a bit. I think he'll be worth the effort. Allen was just as slow and as easily beaten wide, he just anticipated a bit better which Komi is gonna lack after not playing much.

Ward looks rusty. We lacked flow and out breakouts were brutal. Faulk started it off poorly and we as a group never snapped out of it. Sekera is a good addition but I'm not sure that's a reliable top pairing.

Could be the end of the long term Charlotte guys though. I can't think of anyone else muller could mean. Boychuk and dalpe. Bowman maybe stays from his contract and "defensive abilities". Welsh is likely down too unless the contract makes him stay.

Ps. Nash played well. He's above sutter by a bit IMO for the fourth line spot. In defense of dalpe and boychuk they didn't get set up at all tonight. Wingers need good passes attack the zone.

well what i cant figure out is that dalpe and boychuck have been in the canes system for a few years, all while being taught and playing the canes system. is this a canes issue that these players are not nhl ready??? is the coaching in charlotte up to snuff?? and bowman was a standout at the junior level and was mvp of the memorial cup. now hes destined for the fourth line it seems. i don't now whats up, but it seems to me that theres some issues in the coaching or they way kirk is preparing these guys to play. what do you guys think?? we heard the excuse over the summer that muller didn't have a training camp to prepare the team, but this looks like a complete mess to me....

That's not a Kirk thing since they've all 3 been in the system under Lavi and Maurice as well and that's been a constant there. I do think it's an AHL issue. We're not developing these guys well, at all. Boychuk was a semi-safe pick for his draft spot, but given his size the bust potential was existent. But neither of Dalpe or Bowman should be struggling the way they have been.

I agree with that assessment comets and have been sceptical of Muller and crew. however, I suppose there may be something to those excuses to be fair.. he has had time and his camp now and yes it does look like a mess regardless of who the collection of players is. we have no choice but to sit back and see how it goes.

however, if what we are witnessing does turn out to be the end product for the season, there is no other word to describe it but total incompetence.

Career preseason stats

Dalpe - 1 goal, 2 assists in 13 games
Bowman - 0 goals, 1 assist in 13 games
Boychuk - 1 goal, 1 assist in 9 games

If these guys can't score with their jobs on the line against B/C squads, how can we expect them to score against actual NHL talent?

Bowman with his "elite shot" hasn't scored on a goalie ever. Dalpe hasn't scored on anyone not named David Aebischer.

the sooner this organization...and fans admit/realize that all these guys are nothing more than AHL players and emergency call ups, the better.

I'd like to see Boychuk get a few shifts with not fourth line trash. I thought he made a couple slick plays in the game vs. Montreal, setting up bums.

edit: I guess Boychuk skated with Staal-Semin later in the game? I only watched the early portion of that abomination.

I hear you that these pre-season games are "meaningless." But they are also "meaningless" for our opponents who are kicking the bejesus out of us. What's going to be any different when the season starts? The other teams are going through the same process we are and they look one h*** of a lot better than we do. :help:
