Good points.

I think the Czechs go through against the Finns myself, i've liked their play to this point more then Suomi.
We will see.. rosters are close to even but they are Defending Gold Champs and we are on 9 years without a medal here. Win or lose.. I really enjoyed the Czech squad as it is a dream squad of guys that got anhilated at World Juniors. Nice to see them win.. Spacek, Chytil, Zadina, Blumel, Hajek and the Musil's come to mind. My hope is that it is a dressing room just beyond pissed that they always got anhilated at those tourneys.lol

Sorry but the Americans are mad as hell and they're not gonna take it anymore.

Too bad Slovakia happens to be in the way.

That would be very unusual. It's like if Uruguay were to become world champions in football again after 1950. ;)

This is the thing. Covid season is a weird season, so it gives an unexpected winner as well. USA has looked pretty good so far, so this is the moment.

Plus I think they might indeed get SVK + SUI and that is probably the easiest path to the final. They go to the final fresh in back to back days. Usually medal game day is right after the semifinal day. If they get the earlier time to play the semifinal, even greater advantage for them.

Frankly, Switzerland has a stronger team in Riga than Finland, so I think it would be easier for them to meet Finland on its way to the final. However, this is also questionable, because the Czechs are likely to win against Finland.

I was talking about USA, not Finland. I meant no disrespect to SVK. USA was in Finland's group and I was pretty impressed by USA. I think that SVK can beat USA, but SVK needs to have a good day that day, just like FIN can beat the mighty CZE on a good day. Finland accepts the underdog position. CZE already beat Finland 2 weeks ago in EHT, while FIN was running almost the same roster anyway.

b: Canada is on a nice little run (hasn't lost in regulation for awhile)
It doesn't matter if you lose in regulation or if you lose after 60 minutes, the end result is exactly the same in the elimination round. Canada failed to win a game that was extremely important for them against a team that wouldn't have benefited at all from winning it. Really, that should be an alarming sign for them.

Advancing with just ten points is exceptional and Canada is only in the quarters because of a sequence of unlikely events occurring to other teams during the final game days of the group stage. Meanwhile ROC is actually on a real four game winning streak.

My predictions vs my actual preference of outcome:

Finland beats Czechs (preference: Czech win)
US beats Slovakia (preference: Slovakia win)
Switzerland beats Germany (preference: don't care at all)
Russia beats Canada (preference: Canada win)

Well, I think the Russians are more likely to seize the opportunity. But maybe it's Suomi too. ;)

With the USA/Germany wins:

If Canada wins:
USA vs Canada
Finland/Czech Republic vs Germany

If Russia wins:
USA vs Germany
Russia vs Finland/Czech Republic

Well, I think the Russians are more likely to seize the opportunity. But maybe it's Suomi too. ;)

Russia would be the #1 favorite of the tournament, but they are seeded in the way (or wrong side of the bracket sort of) that USA becomes the bigger favorite because their path is clearer to the final, this increases USA's chances of getting gold.

That's where I was coming from earlier, now that we know the result of the 2 first semifinal games it strenghtens USA's gold favorite position in my opinion.

And now we could be a witness of a german miracle?

I still can't believe it.

Captain o my captain

But Germany could beat all! Except Russia.
They're doing the magic again, aren't they?
Well ROC's out of their way now

Is there any kind of relegation round? I am kinda out of the loop.

There is no relegation round since 2012. Instead, the lowest ranked team from both groups gets automatically relegated. However, this year no team gets relegated due to covid.

Finland-Germany could be tighter than expected but if Finland doesn't pull this off it would be a sensation.

That was such a different Canada than the Canada Finland faced. Kids look the same (some of them should not be here) but the veterans really stepped it up.
Yes, as a Ducks fan I'm very proud of Rico. Even during the round robin he did a good job.
