U18: Quarterfinal predictions and GDT

Congrats US.. shots were 54 to 12 or something like that. Nice warmup for your Semi!

It does 'feel' to me like the best offence (US) and best defence (Sweden) are on a collision course for gold. We'll see what Canada/Slovakia/Finland have to say about that though!
 
Chromiak has been really bad in this tournament. Now his turnover causes another penalty

Urban needs to steal this for us and so far he is succeeding

1-0 Slovakia.. this game should be the only good game. Glad they scored first, they are the underdog and this might relax them a bit. Dvorsky is a flat out stud and I look forward to him on many future Slovak NT teams which, in my opinion, are going to start rising a little very soon!
 
I would not be too down on the Czechs for the game plan they chose. They are the far inferior team as compared to the US, so playing an open game would lead to the US scoring 10 or so. Given the gap in quality, what they did was the only realistic way to give themselves a tiny chance - and it worked for a long time, given that it was only 1-2 until late in the game. Nice to look at? No. But it reflects the reality of the gap in quality between the teams.

As for NOR - GER, maybe the score was surprising, but not the result. As I keep saying on these message boards, people seem to massively overestimate the quality of Germany. They are just not very good. I was not surprised by the massive Czech victory against the Germans and I am not surprised by this result, either - although the margin of Norway’s victory is bigger than I expected. But I continue to be amazed at how much Germany gets overestimated here.

Slovakia has a good chance to win this game if they keep their head in the game, Finland started to put some pressure on but when you watch all tournament you can tell they are a mediocre team that is very beatable and ripe for the plucking.

It's a down year for the Finns.. it's hard for 5 million people to be consistent at U18.... I think next year's FInn squad is going to be a gold contender again.

Now watch them get all Sisu and win the whole tourney after I post reply.lol
