You should read your history books. The first year NHL players were allowed at the tournament it was clear Canada was going to walk home with gold - Gretzky, Bourque, Lindros, Roy... But who ended up winning?

You should re-read what I posted because you show a clear lack of reading comprehension. Nowhere did I say the US was guaranteed anything. I said this was their best chance to win a Gold in a long time. And they would have been favored vs the Czechs.

And in your example, The fact that Canada lost doesn’t mean they weren’t heavy favorites. That’s just straight revisionist history.

Anyone else think there was a huge lack of creativity on the shootout for US?

It probably helps too that this will most likely be the final Olympics held in a relatively small place like this. The fact nobody really wants to bid the games anymore makes me think they’re simply going to rotate summer between London Paris LA Beijing Tokyo Sydney and probably winter between Beijing Calgary Salt Lake City and probably two other Europe locations

It was interesting to be in South Korea for the games. Realistically the choice of Gangneung for the arena stuff makes ZERO sense. It's a small provincial city that basically has a three month beach season. Pyeonchang is the main skiing area in Korea, but it can easily be reached by the new high speed rail from Seoul in about 90 minutes. It's a bit longer than the 30 minutes in Sochi, but still, it would make much more sense to have the arena events in Seoul. However according to the Koreans the reason they didn't was very much political. The local prefecture specifically wanted them to develop a remote eastern region's infrastructure as part of the bid.

US has zero skill. 8 of 11 goals either were scored or assisted by two players. Donato and Terry.

Which is sad but even those players I thought were very dull in the shootout. Same basic move over and over is how I seen it. IDK. I thought we could have done better but our go to guys did the same move and got stuffed.

Absolutely awful except for two shooters. Donato and Bourque had the goalie beat but didn’t lift the pick. And the Czech goalie is really good. The other shooters looked like thy wanted to get it over with.

I still cannot get over the fact they brought some of those players to the Olympics and not more NCAA ones. Pathetic.

I'm deeply disappointed that they couldn't continue with the "Win for Jim" fight to the medal round. However, I need to thank the team for giving it everything they had to give. I don't think USA hockey was embarrassed by any means. In contrast, many of us can remember how the dream team of '98 handled themselves. Unlike other Olympics, there will be no hall of famers on this USA squad. Nevertheless, by all standards, this team made a decent account of themselves.
