This went to OT ? Wow. How'd the Danes look ?
They looked pretty good. Same as last year. Here in Toronto Danes were up 2-0 against Russia. Then they could score third goal a few times. Russia got super lucky there. Russia scored with 47 seconds left in the 2nd period, then got another goal in the third. Eventually Russia won in a shootout. Now second game between these two teams and again Russia barely won. So basically Denmark is an extremely tough opponent for the Russians. Two games in the history of the tournament so far and both were super close.
Very scared.of the semis, but whatever happens...
I love the job Bragin has done over the years, but he needs to get his act together in this tournament, as he was responsible for today's performance, IMO. Denmark was clearly more motivated in the first half of the game, and Russia was just sleepwalking through. Its his job to get his team ready to play, and he didn't do it.
The other thing that bothers me is his decision to go with Georgiev. I thought he has been shaky throughout the tournament, especially today, with his slow movement in the net and poor rebound control. There was no reason for Denmark to have scored 3 goals today. There was some shoddy defensive play, but you have to be able to depend on the goaltender to make big saves in an important game, and Georgiev scares me.
That said, Monday is another day, and if they can get the motivation to play well, on the ice and in goal, they have as good a chance as anyone to play for a Gold Medal.
Obviously Yanks still have to beat Czechs, BUT looking ahead to a probable USA-RUS match-up. Last couple of years, team USA really shot themselves in the foot with careless stickwork and a steady parade to the penalty box in QF's...This seems to be a more composed, although top heavy ( tad too dependent on Matthews/Tachuck line ) , Yankee squad...
Should be a very interesting match-up...IF things go according to Hoyle..
Wow...I am kind of glad I didn't watch this game...Looking at how it played out, I could have gotten a heart attack..
If it is a US-Russian match, Team USA will deserve to be heavily favored. Their lineup is crowded with guys who are going to be making $7-8 million a year within 2 to 3 years.
Did you mean losers) Seems your guys going home too )
