Weak slash call against the USA, especially after the missed hook on Larkin. Good call on D'Angelo though.

u talking about the call where he whacks Russian goalie's pad...Geez Luise, the puck was nowhere near the net even...CLEAR PENALTY THAT!

Canada has not won anything yet.

Given recent history at the Juniors, I'm definitely a bit surprised by the arrogance.

I am not being arrogant - if you meant me. I was in Buffalo when I saw an amazing tournament disappear in the 3rd period from hell. I know better.

I have no idea if we will win the WJR's or not. Having said that, we match up better against the U.S. than Russia even tho the U.S. is the better team.

Refs job is to call penalties, not to make sure it's fun to watch.
The players dictate what happens, if they decide to break the rules there'll be lots of penalties and not very "good flow" will ensue.

Refs should never interfere or manage the game in any shape or form, the games flow is only a consequence of what the players do.

Alright. Yes, you're correct - this is what it SHOULD be like. What I'm saying, is there are times when referees make mistakes - a missed call, a call that should not have been... sometimes this becomes apparent to referees AFTER the calls have been made. The vehicle that referees use to try and balance out THEIR mistakes (not just the game) is what I am referring to when I say game management.

Today's game as an example: 4 of the 5 U.S.A. penalties are legitimate, the high sticks are kind of hard not to call, the toe pick was probably a missed non-call. What should happen, in my opinion (and this isn't the best example but it's fresh); when Larkin goes through the crease and makes what could have been considered incidental contact - call a crease violation and take the puck outside of the zone rather than call a penalty.

If every call is made 100% of the time with no mistakes, there is no need for any of this, understand that. That being said, no game is ever perfect, and if the referees miss one or two obvious calls against one team and call everything against the other team, you end up with an unfair game that has bad flow and is terrible to both watch and play. BEFORE anyone freaks out, I'm not saying this game is any of that. Just using examples.

USA should be winning gold not losing in the 3rd period of the quarters with their amazing team. Eichel, Matthews, Hanifin, Werenski should be leading them but look, now we all know that 17 year olds and young 18 year olds don't dominate the World Juniors.

Lesson learned.

If they come back and win the gold, is a different lesson learned?
