GDT: Quarter Finals: United States vs. Switzerland; Jan. 2, 2025; 14:30 EST

Lol there was no reason to not start Augustine here
There was no reason no to start Neuenschwander either. Which was why I posted about both coaches starting their backup earlier in this thread. Strange decisions.

Who cares about exhibitions? It's about getting used to everything about getting ready for game 1 and Neuenschwander sure was.
Nah I wont let him of that easy. Neuenschwander hasnt strung together a few strong games in succession at the U18 level and up. Cant remember him ever standing on his head (game vs czechia wasnt that level of play) in that age group either. Who cares about exhibitions (vs Canada)? A lot of NHL scouts probably do...

Other exhibition games maybe but not a game you play only to prepare for a tournament. The lone purpose of that preparation game was to get used to the smaller ice, the arena and everything. It was also the first of the two exhibitions, he may have been still dealing with jetlag. Who knows. Anyway, he was ready for game 1 vs Czechia which is what matters.

The Swiss have some decent looks in the attacking zone but what about them defending? They have simultaneously been everywhere and nowhere, a big mess, no defensive system. I guess this might be the coach's fault.

It's all the coaches fault. As always. There's no system, they started the backup goalie and they keep on playing the exact same defense pairing that got caved in game after game except maybe against Kazakhstan. Against Slovakia they were so bad, they barely touched the puck outside of their own zone during the 2nd half of the game. Yet, no change was made.

Like scouts care about game context that much. That game will be included in his evaluation for the draft big time.
