Finns will be a tough game: Lundell is probably the best player that we have played against yet both in terms of talent and well performance. (Rossi could have been but well Austria was Austria)

Lambert is more talented than him but he is 2 years younger.

Not really, the US had multiple breakaways and the ice was slanted for about 80% of the game. Slovakia capitalized on their only real chances and made a solid push for about 5 minutes.
US had multiple breakaways they couldn’t score on. Slovakia played hard and didn’t give superior skilled US players lots of 2nd/3rd chances in front of the Slovak goalie. Sometimes the US did themselves no favors taking too long to shoot, looking for perfect pass or shot or just not getting shots on net. I don’t think US won because they outworked Slovakia, but because Slovakia just doesn’t have (enough) quality players in their lineup.

No, it will be a walk in the park, Finns are not really competitive this year.

USA was never really not in control, but Slovakia definitely made it interesting and never gave up. Tons of credit to their team and program. With that said, two players looked a lot more engaged today for team USA: Caufield and Kaliyev. Sure, both scored, but they also did a lot of the little things right. Hope that continues against Finland.

I mean it’s tough to project: right now, Lundell is leading the Finns with goals and points while playing brilliant defensive hockey. He was also 4th in the Liiga in points and 2nd in goals before the WJC.

You might be right that Lambert has more potential to be talented but I don’t think he is more talented today

I should have said projected to be more talented. Lambert and Shane Wright are considered solid bets to be stars but it is still 2 years away from the draft and they make not continue to develop.

Then we agree: Lambert looks like he could be the top overall.

Now as a Florida fan, I’m absurdly in love with Lundell and I’m pumped about his progression this season so maybe Lambert will be first overall and still be less talented than Lundell ;)

Pretty disappointed with Caufield, to be honest.

I really thought he was going to put on his big boy pants and be a real goal scoring force for this team but he’s just kinda shooting blanks and looking lost.

Hopefully the goal tonight gets him going but I’m worried to say the least. Luckily others are stepping up and taking charge instead but I’d really like to see some more leadership out of him when he’s not scoring, instead of the defeated and pouty body language. At least be a good teammate...

The point is they need Kaliyev and Caufield to score if they are going to win the Gold. Thet can control play but they need more than Zegras and Boldy doing the scoring.
Yes, they do and there is still time. You like to see player's perform on the biggest stage and there is opertunity for both players.

I hate the Rangers as an isles fan but man Bret Berard has the look of a guy that will have a long solid nhl career as a bottom 6 guy. I’ve been really impressed with him all tourney.

I haven't been able to the view the games but will be watching the next one.... What is it about Berard's game that has impressed you? (Thanks)

There is nothng wrong with looking disappointed that he isn't scoring as long as it isn't selfish. He may be upset that he isn't helping the team win. Of course it would be good if he looked upset when a weak defensive play leads to a goal against.

Could be. I liked Lundell's start to the season and took him in my pool. Lost him in the waiver draft though. Lost Denisenko last year too. I filled with Boldy and Seth Jarvis so I'm not too disappointed.

And that is the mindset that many teams have had against Finland the last 7ish years. You may be right this time around but that’s quite an arrogant comment.

Kid just doesn’t stop moving his feet. He’s got a high motor. Attacks the puck carrier when he’s defending. Seems to always be right in the middle of the action. Not afraid to get his nose dirty. Offensively he battles on the boards and understands how to cycle the puck. Shows some nice skills as well.

Personally I’m a sucker for guys who can skate. Berard is fast but has a great stride and showed some impressive edge work all tournament.

My older brother was always the smallest guy on the ice but he was always one of the best players because he was an unreal skater. He was teammates with Matt Gilroy growing up and played against Erik Nystrom.

I feel like being a superior skater can allow you to compete and give you a chance anywhere on the ice all 200ft.

Berard plays bigger than his size too. Just a lot to like about him. Also, his dad is a college coach and usually Coaches kids have a good understanding of the game. You can just see it

Ok, that’s way more credit I gave to a Rags prospect than I can almost handle :sarcasm:;)
