WC: Quarter Final Thursday!

This is the ranking for the re-seedings according to IIHF criteria:
Switzerland 1st
Finland 2nd
Sweden 3rd
Germany 4th
Canada 5th
Czech 6th
USA 7th
Slovakia 8th

So SUI-FIN, SUI-SWE are not possible SF pairings, neither are SVK-USA and SVK-CZE.
For the rest, we'll see :)

Finland - The winning streak against SVK will go on another year. Manninen with the game winner.
Sweden - Gonna be close, but eventually Sweden will prevail over Canada. Dahlin will make sure of that.
Czechia - Pasta will lead the team past the plucky Germans.
Switzerland - Their dream of gold will stay alive for at least another round. OT win against USA.

Not to sound like Eye of Ra, but Canada is our kryptonite. No matter how good we've been, we turn into choke-y pathetic losers when we meet Canada. Up 3-0 against Canada with 5 minutes left, and I'll still bet on them.

It's how Switzerland feels about playing us I think.

Compare the rosters. Canadas team is much stronger.

Everyone on Canada team is good NHLers. Swedens team have many mediocer SHLers. Its not even close.

This iteration of Team Canada appears to believe that they can score their way out of trouble.

That's not always a good formula for winning close games in the single elimination format.

They've blown out minnows but struggled with better competition. It will be interesting to see how they respond.

Switzerland over USA. (obviously rooting for the Swiss)
Finland over Slovakia. (rooting for Slovakia)
Czechia over Germany. (rooting for Czechia)
Canada over Sweden. (hmmm, the better should win... I like both of them a lot)

NHL experience. Canada 4973 (1st in this tournament), Sweden 4282 games (3rd). Finland has beaten with very Euro teams the well NHL experienced Canada, Sweden and Russia on both Olympics and Worlds. I am not a huge fan of Sweden, but do see them as a favourites in this one. I have enormous respect for their national team though. They can never be underestimated...
Canadian side can be considered much stronger when You look at the size and weight. Canuks are the tallest and heaviest team of this tournament... LOL.

Last time Sweden did good in WC was 2018. That was 4 years ago. Its a fact. Canada won wc last year.
Only Max Comtois from that squad is in this years roster. From 2018 Sweden Gold team there are Hellberg, Larsson, Ekman-Larsson and Gustafsson... 4:1 for Sweden!

Most of those NHL games are former NHLers who where not good enough to stick in NHL and veterans such as Adam Larsson and OEL. Everyone on canadas team is good NHLers right now. Major difference.

I barely recognize any of the names. I'm a Finn, I thrive on Sweden's failure and i am so biased it is shameful at times. But not even I can be blind enough to not see that Sweden are clear favourites in this one.

And I hope you win.

Sorry but that's wrong.
WHC 2019:

Roster Canda: were no former NHL player in team Canada. All were active NHL player and good enough for the NHL and they lost twice against Finland.
Roster Sweden: Sweden played with 17 players from the NHL almost the whole team.
Roster Russia: Alexander Ovechkin from the Washington Capitals, Yevgeni Malkin / Pittsburgh Penguins, Ilya Kovalchuk / Los Angeles King, Yevgeni Dadanov / Florida Panthers, etc. etc. played all in the Russian team and they lost against a Finnish no name team.
Roster Finland: no name team all players from the Finnish liiga, the Swiss national league or the KHL

WHC 2021:

Roster Canada: Except of 2 players from farm teams all other were active NHL players.
Roster Russia: 10 active NHL players the rest of the KHL
Roster Sweden: Ok for Sweden it's correct only 2 players from NHL
Roster Finland: on the paper with the weakest roster with only 1 player from the NHL the rest from Finnish Liiga, Swiss national league and KHL. But Finland won with this roster again Silver medal.

Only for the Olympics this year you are right. But because the NHL didn't interrupt the season for the Olympic games no team could play with NHLer also not Finland. So it was the same for all teams. Finland had no advantage concerning the player skills compared to the other teams.

what on earth are you talking about man. Im talking about this wc. year 2022.

And here you are also wrong. 12 players of the current team Sweden are active NHL players who are good enough for the NHL. Sweden is on the paper not so bad. The rest from the Swedish league and Swiss national league which isn't so bad.
Ok all in the team Canada are at this WHC active NHL players. Sweden has less active NHL player this year in the team but as Finland proved it 2019 you can also win with less NHL player in the team.

If the game goes to OT, will I hope to play 5vs5 ten minutes and then penalties follow? Maybe I won't see 3vs3 in a playoff match ... that would disappoint me a lot. The IIHF has had a year to change, it's not good if any playoff match isn't played 5vs5.

No, I corrected my post. It was my mistake. You spoke about the Swedish roster at this whc 2022. Read my edited post above.
Jacob Petersson, Bemström and Carl Grundström are barely NHLers. Nylander and Asplund is good NHLers. So we have 2 good NHLers rest is borderline NHLers and grinders from SHL and NLA. Not super impressing forwards.
