I hope to see some wheeling and dealing.

We are overloaded on D, overloaded on F, and have ample cap space.

I’ve argued elsewhere why using buyouts on Armia and Hoffman is an interesting and aggressive move to gain cap space and be able to sell it for a premium to hungry needy teams.

I strongly feel Hughes needs to be aggressive this summer because we cannot expect to tank again and they were too passive with last year’s tank regardless.

I’m not anti-HuGo whatsoever but in their third off-season they need to show something more. Floating through the summer will be discouraging esp since we don’t have a potential superstar prospect in our system.
Just their 2nd offseason......
You make some good points, and it certainly seems fans and media are thinking the honeymoon is over, and it's time to move forward...........we need to show progress in a meaningful way this upcoming season. The injury bug has hopefully moved down the road to another team, would be a major help also.

I think they need to buyout Armia, would love to see Hoffman gone too, but he was already offered for free, and no one bit that bullet.

Newhook doesn’t have offence either although there’s some buried that we need to tap in to
Newhook is 22 and produced at lower levels which led him to be drafted right after Caufield. Kampf is 28 and never produced at lower levels which led him to be undrafted.

I know which of these two players has more potential right now. Newhook could very much be someone like Phillip Danault before leaving Chicago.

Totally agree but I was just saying he’s been shit on offence up to todays date. He can easily open up and make an impact

Team is too stuffed with players right now, about the only moves I can see are a new contract for Monty and maybe flipping one or two of the problem children.

forward - 14
Locks
Suzuki, Slafkovsky, Caufield, dach, newhook, Anderson, Gallagher, monahan
In play
Hoffman, Armia, RHP, pezz, Evans, dvorak, pitlick

Defense- 9
Lock
Matheson, savard, Guhle, Harris, Xhekaj, Barron
In play
Edmunson, wideman, kovacevic
Kovacevic is more of a lock than Harris or Xhekaj

It's been so negative here in the last few days that it's been hard to discern between serious and sarcastic comments.

Now, we only need to overpay for an UFA and this season will be perfect.
This UFA crop is so putrid that i don't think it's possible to really overpay anyone. Except for maybe a team like Chicago that is just looking to hit the cap floor.

Mtl., QC.
Puljujarvi id give a try. Same age that our forward group. Big and physical. But sucked hard last year. Could St-Louis develop him? He did good in Sweden.

But we are packed already. Too much players signed for us to give a chance to someone else

I’m being black and white. He’s been a disappointment to a certain degree but I’m just saying he’s not a write off and could end up like Dach

For Laval/Montreal

John Hayden - Player is tough and can produce in the AHL

Riley Tufte/Justin Brazeau - Both have size, Brazeau produces better in the A, but Tufte might be figuring it out.

If Montreal can move out some contracts, which I doubt.

Sign:

JVR/Pacioretty to a 1 year deal and see if they can help bring some offense and be offloaded at the deadline.

Klingberg - 1 year deal to move him like what happened in Anaheim. If he wants more than 1 year, just pass.

If we could possibly get rid of some of our players (in some cases a lot better option for teams looking than what's available on free agent market) would be great.Another option if we can do this or not is take a bad contract to save other teams cap space.Get good draft pick or prospects

I wouldn't mind Alex True for Laval. Still pretty young, has size and skill and could help out down the middle there.

I see no downside in buying off Hoffman.

I don't see any downside of having him on the 4th line or spare forward. This way, we don't rush Farrell or Heineman and they can play big min's in Laval.

One of the key things here is trying to clear out enough cap so we don't have to have Price on LTIR before the season starts. Placing Price on LTIR after the season starts creates more options for us during next season and also helps us create room to not carry forward any ELC performance bonuses.

I think we can move Hoffman but maybe we have to add a B prospect like Tuch and a 4th (worse case). I rather than than buying him out and taking on a cap hit next year... even if it's $1.6M. Why not just retain $500k to move him this summer?

I don't like the buyout option at all.
