Again, it all comes down to how he asked. Blowing up on the coach in front of your teammates is one thing. Talking to him behind closed doors is another entirely.
Yeah, there is a delicate way to do it. However, looking at the roster, who was he thinking would get swapped out with him? Saad?
Questioning your role really isn't that big of an issue. If you pout in practice, start causing problems in the lockerroom and start trashing your coach in the media it's one thing. Approaching your coach and asking why you are being given the role you are in a one on one situation is something else entirely.
I'm not saying Stalberg is innocent in this. I don't know. But anyone saying "clearly" about this situation better be closely tied in to the Chicago Blackhawks organization.
I'd imagine Stalberg was thinking Shaw, given he's the one Bolland is replacing. That'd leave the two wingers on the third line playing the same position they have all year long.
It makes a lot of sense, actually. And I really like Shaw.

BS
Coaches Coach and Players Play
Do you think Frolik/Kruger want to have increased roles? Yes
But at end of day Q put them in roles and they work there ass off to do there job
Stalberg comnplaining about his "role" when he has been absolute garbage for 3 straight playoffs is unacceptable
Q is doing right thing benching him
Playing Carcillon on other hand is a issue
Please produce a quote stating Stalberg complained about a single thing.

I just think when you're already getting ice time and there isn't anyone else ahead of you playing bad, added to the fact you yourself could have played better...you've got no legs to stand on. But yeah, we do not know exactly what was said but whatever it was, it pissed Q off. Bad timing on Stalberg IMO.
It was from Chris Kuc's tweets today...that's how the discussion on this angle got started.

@JayZawaski670 I'm told Stalberg questioned his role to coaches (not sure which one) on his role.

Kuc also pointed out Mayers was mysteriously benched in the playoffs last year...I don't think we ever got an explanation as to why...it was weird b/c he'd played the entire regular season.
Q is weird like that. He's a good coach...but you get the impression that he has his favourites and the guys he doesn't like.
Once again, you see what you want to see with absolute and total certainty. You don't change your mind about anything once you've made what is sometimes a snap judgement.
Sure, but if for three days in a row Stalberg was playing on a line with Mayers and Bollig while Carcillo was slotted to play ahead of him on the fourth line it's certainly fair for Stalberg to question whether or not he's going to be playing come Wednesday night.
Again, nobody knows. It's only bad timing because Coach Q made it public. If they both handled the question like professionals then this isn't even being discussed, because nobody outside of the two of them knows about it.
