Right so you don't have an example, you can just say 'not yet' too.
Someone gave an example above. I also gave you an example for the upcoming All-Star Game which is just as relevant, if not more-so because it shows that the NHL itself is already going to prop it up and cross-promote. You're just being difficult.

In England Arsenal had 60 000 in a soccer game a month ago, and many of the audience are women and girls who idolize the players etc. I dont see why it cant happen in hockey as well in that sense. The boom of womens football should serve as an example it can actually happen in womens sports!
Sure that great but what exactly are the professional sporting options in England?

The start of this league is in the exact right time when womens sports are growing big time.
Hopefully it turns out that way.

Will it happen in womens hockey? Not to the same extent probably! But probably a little bit!

if the players want to get rich outside hockey they should consider getting more sexy on their social media channels, thats what the richest soccers stars are doing! (no pun intended) Problem is there aint millions of desperate male africans that follow hockey, so it wont be as easy to find followers.
WTF?

Especially to the last sentence.:help:

Right, you can just also say "I feel this way, therefore it is". Feeling reality is pretty normal. It doesnt actually mean anything, but it makes people feel good about their opinions. I;m happy for you, good job!.

no interest. I can drive two minutes to my local rink to watch better minor hockey live for free.

NOt that I don't want this to succeed, I really could careless. But your market is women and they are the ones that generally haven't bought tickets in the past.
Doesn’t mean that because it’s women’s hockey that only women has to watch it.

Women’s tennis isn’t watched only by women.

What are you talking about?

You said it'll be easy for people to ignore the PWHL because, as an example, you can ignore F1 when you don't like it, which is just your feelings, and I provided an actual tangible example of how the NHL is going to combine the PWHL into an NHL event in a month, which makes it more difficult to ignore if I don't want to consume that content.

The new PWHL (Professional Women Hockey League) begins today. There doesn't seem to be a lot of talk about it on this board.
What is your initial level of interest in this league?
I'm slightly curious at the start but I am dubious it will maintain my interest. What about you?
I'll watch it if there's an easy way to do it.

I wish I had more interest but I have to concede that I really have next to none. Outside of the odd Abbotsford Canucks game and a few Kelowna Rockets games when I go back home for the holidays, I really don't have time to watch anything less than NHL-quality hockey. This would be quite a few levels below that and it's hard to build any sort of consistent support, outside of the odd game here and there.

No, you are making an assumption about how things will work based on your own preconceived notions, yet you present it like its a fact. I am congratulating you based on your feelings, which are pre-supposing a reality.

Interest is at a 1.

I hope they succeed and wish them well. It'll help little girls who play hockey have something to watch, aspire to, and have others to look upon.

I watched the game today because it was new and unique. But I know I won't watch with much intent or go out of my way to watch it. I may tune in if nothing else on, but by Game 5, let alone Year 5, it'll be a passing thought for me.

If my two girls and my two nieces (one who is a young hockey playing kid) take to it, then it's worth it. The league has a long road ahead to not only build a fanbase, but retain it. The WNBA has carved out its niche over 25 years, and I wish the PWHL success in achieving the same.

Hopefully it is done organically, without the expectation the NHL is going to prop it up financially (there should definitely be some cross-promotion), and the fanbase is female-oriented. Let the little girls at the school yard start talking about the PWHL and the game from the night before. They're the future to any long-term success of the league after all.

I'd say probably 2-3ish. Same level as any other league that isn't the NHL. I only check in now and again for prospects.

T.O.
I was channel surfing and saw the PWHL acronym. Had no idea what it was, assumed it stood for Pee Wee Hockey League.

Thought to myself, man they really have nothing else to broadcast on Jan 1. Turned it on anyway and after realizing what it was, was left disappointed that it wasn't in fact the pee wee hockey league.

I think you can safely assume my answer is 0.

This is the starting point.. A pile of women play hockey, this league will be the league to play in within 2-3 years and it will expand in leaps and bounds. It's going to work. .. does not mean I will live and die by it but it's going to work.

Absolutely 0. I wish them all the best still!

In Finland women hockey the crowd is just their families. Nobody gives a shit.
I can barely find any interest to even watch national team games.

We will all be dead before professional women hockey players are making 7-8 million a year.

Well, to be honest I don't believe any professional athlete has any business earing what they earn. Hockey players are the closest of the big 4 to making what they deserve but it's still too much. But those are my sentiments and capitalism had other plans.

Don't even get me started on the concept of some f***ing guy making more in one year than say an underwater welder would if they worked 15 years because they and get this, "throw a ball well". Sorry did I say 15 years? What I meant to say was 30 years. Last year, Chris f***ing Sale made as much as an underwater welder makes in 30 years, or, their entire career.

If you're wondering why I used underwater welder it's because it's straight up the most dangerous job in the world. It has a 15% fatality rate. Basically on your 7th day of work, there's a strong possibility someone you have seen has died at the job site.

But you want to know the real f***ing sick thing? I lied. Yeah, it wouldn't take 30 years for an underwater welder to make $30 million. I'm a bit high and realized that math is wrong. I'm missing a zero!

TL;DR It would take 300 years (or 10 careers-worth) for someone who tickle death's taint every single day to make as much as a guy who can throw a f***ing ball pretty good.

(no pun intended) Problem is there aint millions of desperate male africans that follow hockey, so it wont be as easy to find followers.

Now, since 3 persons laughed at your post I assume I need to explain what I meant and the reasons behind it.

Note, please read the entire post before judging me as sexist or anything, which I am not.

When I started following Manchester United newly founded womens team 5 years ago (who I know follows as much as the mens team) I observed on facebook and twitter that 75% of the people commenting on the content was africans craving for the girls in a sexual/dating way on top of being football and Manchester United fans.

In Africa they love their football obviously as its the biggest and cheapest sport, there are literally endless of male football fans there. If 10-20% of males that supports Manchester United mens team also follows the womens team it makes for a decent following.

And it also makes for alot of love-hungry africans who is absolutely turned on by watching pretty white europeans play football in skimpy outfits. This means these fans are following the players on their instagram, twitter and facebook and are simping and spamming them with comments on how beautiful, sexy & exotic they are and with questions about their phone number etc.

I have even called them out on the Man United Women facebook page because I come there to read comments about the actual games and players and not to see romantic & sexual desires about the players on the team.

This is leading up to the fact that many players are making much more money from horny instagram followers than what they get paid by the clubs. And keep in mind that an attractive female that gathers lots of followers on instagram is going to be approached by various fashion related companies that wants them to wear their clothing/products etc - which will lead to more followers etc.

And just like that the african fans lusting for european girls have contributed in a big way to making the girls rich outside football!

---
And to some degree it spills over as actual progress and interest for the game - because more comments, likes, shares for the teams will make more people aware of the games, the algoritm will be activated etc! This is why Manchester United does not clean up the comment section. The more followers and comments you get, the better for the club and the growth of the game.

-
Conclusion: That is why I was saying that the first female hockey player that will be considered a HOT SEX BOMB and are posting alot of daring posts on instagram of her in skimpy bikinis, training in thongs etc will have the potential to become the games highest earner ASAP!

You can just observe Livvy Dunne and how she has charmed the american male youth to treat her like a sensual & divine goddess to become rich AF in no time.

It would work the exact same for womens hockey players. Only problem for them is that their in game outfits is not selling sex and attraction in any way or form which will make it harder for them to get people to watch their games for that reason. And millions or billions of africans will not start following female hockey players when there are other options which shows much more skin.

You are not going to see black thongs through white shorts like you see in womens soccer, you are not going to see tanned bodies, players playing games in rain soaked in moist, perfect make-up applied and shown during games!

If you check out Athenea Del Castillo, Alisha Lehmann (16.3 million followers) or Alessia Russo and you will understand exactly what I mean. These players have the looks and they have realized exactly how you use it to make money by wearing XXS in shorts size etc. And I am not blaming them, its just a factual observation.

Do you understand my comment of "desperate africans now"?

Of course being being skilled, charming and beautiful will also attract small girls that idolize the players and want to become exactly like them both in athletic ability and looks! Thats why they have to prevent fans from chasing womens players cars in england. So obviously they have their share of kids and normal fans. But the amount of people there only for physical attraction from a petite, tanned, fit and famous girl is obviously much bigger than on the mens sports side.

Final note: This post is not minimizing womens athletes in any way or form, its just an observation on which athletes makes most money and why! And that athletes that has a huge social media following will actually get more people to follow the sport as well!

So in a way you could say the PWHL and its players could benefit massively from the players becoming sexier and it would not be a lie at all, regardless if you think its appalling or not.

I hope it does work out, and I am all for it. But like a couple of others have said, I don’t have the time to sit down and watch more hockey. I barely have time to watch Rangers games anymore. So personally I don’t have much interest

I think it's an absolute joke that every team has the same jersey, and they don't have proper team names. If I was in a city this is something I'd take my daughter too. She wouldn't even have a name to call the team. Go Torontos lol

I came here to say this.

The start of the new league is the best time to get people on board as fans. This is when they should be selling jerseys and merch. But I'm not going to buy a jersey for my kid when the team doesn't even have a name.

They're missing out on a ton of foundational support and interest because twitter scared them about team names. They could have called the teams literally anything at all and I'd have bought 3 jerseys by yesterday. Torch, Saints, Aeros, Sting, Ice, 2x4s, Grasshoppers. Literally anything.
