You think Nashville would have given us Askarov? (A guy who has played 6 games in the NHL btw) takes two to tango.

Look at the Rags spending 11.5M on Shesterkin and in the toilet. Hellebucyk lit up last playoffs. No guarantees in sport.
I think Shesterkin is 10-12 on the season?

Which morons scouted this guy? I don't care about hands if you have no feet
You know the Oilers storied history with free agents?;)

Sorry maybe I’m forgetting. But what other mid season pump and dumps happened?

Spend an asset to dump cap space we may not need? I thought with Kane LtIR we are looking at $9m in cap without doing anything?

Why have $3M in effectively dead cap with Skinner when you can use it to improve the team in what is a cup window?

Montreal did pretty well with Monahan but not mid season. Doesn’t mean it can’t happen.

I think we have less than $9M given we’ve had a lot of injuries eating into the cap accrual. That said I’ve lost a lot of interest in the NHL and with Cap Friendly gone I don’t stay up on the numbers like I used to.

I’m dreaming of a Taylor Hall Jeff skinner swap for Xmas :)

Hall has a house here so it makes sense.

Did Rishaug agree?

He was not on that podcast, he was off lol

Teams currently spending 5% or less on their goaltending and where they rank in team save percentage:

Toronto - 2nd
Colorado - 31st
Edmonton - 22nd
Detroit - 14th
Calgary - 16th
Washington - 6th

So a couple teams at the top of the league. A couple of teams mid tier. Two teams in the bottom 10. The one team on the list that is worse than us recognized the problem and has swapped out both of their goalies. The two new goalies they've brought in have .938 and .932 sv% in the 9 games they've started for the Avalanche.

It's not about how much you spend on goaltending. It's about having goalies who don't suck.

Sure, now do the stats after the first 3 games of the season. They are top 10 in sv% the last 25 games.

If you already have $9M to spend (which is alot), then you may not want to spend assets to free up an additional $3M. Now if you were tight to the cap at the TDL and had alot of needs, then yes of course you would free up that $3M.

Yes, Monahan happened. Lots of those situations happen. I can't remember one happening mid-season though, and that's an important distinction. Cause Montreal had training camp and all year to pump Monahan up, on top of Monahan playing a premium position as a Potential 1C.

Also, yes on Hall. Let's get this f***in dynasty started.

Contending teams don't waste time on ineffective players on their roster. The 2 big acquisitions in the off-season have been an utterl failure. Move on. These guys aren't it. Cut your losses. The Oilers are at a point un thier window where if you don't bring anything of value, you get the Vegas treatment. No one should be here along for a ride. I get the feeling Arvidsson is not fully vested and neither is Skinner.

Agreed. I mean you probably be patient for a bit longer, but at this point it's becoming more clear Jackson hitched his summer wagon to a lot of pieces that are not bringing the expected results.

Have to be cutthroat like the top contenders, get these guys out of here.

Imagine we had been more proactive and dealt Broberg or Holloway for Askarov, at least you'd have gotten a big piece back.

Would have loved him on this team as much as the next guy. However, in addition to being a young goalie without a book out on him yet there's also the fact that it would have taken some biblical prognostication that both those players would have been offer sheeted.

He’s clearly not a fit here and he may ask to be moved. I don’t see why you’d want to carry that much in effective dead cap in your cup window. with an active player who wants out and isn’t a fit on the team.

Well deserved win, they absolutely took it to the Sharks from the moment I turned the game on (when it was 2-1 in the first). Love seeing McDavid and Drai son the latest big prospect.

10-2 in our last 12.
I could not believe how many miss wide open nets they had lol

Who will pick up a 3M contract for a thirty something guy who isn't scoring and can't play defense?

Maybe the Flames.
The caps have injuries at forward and have $16M in LTIR space lol

It was the weirdest game, because even though the Oilers were outplaying the Sharks, they ended up being lucky to win. It was like a playoff game from the Sharks, and I was very impressed by their control of the center of the defensive zone. Celebrini is very good. And of course, Askarov was lights out awesome, for a rookie goalie to boot.

The Oilers were only going as far as McDavid could carry them, and in the end he figured on all three points. I though Hyman played well as well. Eckbolm couldn't hit the net until the end. Pickard was okay. Draisaitl and RNH were kind of bad, even though Draisaitl got the game winner.

Let’s just take out every game they’ve lost while we’re at it. Best team in the league.
I'd say that a few games to start the year is fair considering the cup hangover. The fact is they are the best team in the league in the last 25 games and have had good goaltending for over a month straight with the exception of the Panthers game. I'd love to hear your suggestion for an improvement.

The fact you are in here talking about goaltending in a game in which we had a .910 and our goalie made some MASSIVE saves (Celebrini breakaway, Granlund alone in slot, Kunin multiple times) is silly.

If we got the dead weight off the roster in December last year, we don't get Brown's playoffs which were ultimately pretty huge for us.

lol.
By end of December Connor Brown realized his role, adapted his game , used his size and speed and meshed perfectly in the bottom 6.

It's laughable to compare figure skater Skinner and chestvidsson And their impact on the team even in the same realm as CB now. That role belongs to Brown. Neither are good enough to play in the top 6 and neither are versatile enough or mesh to make a significant impact on the bottom 6. I could give Arvidsson a pass, but the guy has shown absolutely 0 hands and is made of glass, too small and isn't some young guy trying to prove himself. Championship teams make cutthroat moves. Neither mean much in the grand scheme of things
