4 Goals & 4 Assists in 38 games can easily cause a player to not show up conspicuously on teams' radars. I can see why teams didn't jump on him as being a no-brainer Top 10 guy.
Snowfort, how strange that sounds. I'm trying not to doubt you...but how could an arena that players and fans attend be difficult for a scout to get to?
Thank God we had a European scout based in Slovakia that had no problems getting to Chytil's games in the Czech Republic. Jan Gajdosik had been following Chytil for over a year, noting his progress. He's the reason we drafted Chytil. Jan has been with us since 1993 (full-time since 2000). It's about time he hit pay dirt!
The production thing shouldn't matter too much if the scouts saw him. I mean you see Russian kids playing in the KHL and posting single-digit points, or kids in the SHL, and they're highly-touted and go round one. I mean when you're a teenager, in in Chytil's case a young 17, playing in a men's league unless you're Gretzky you're not getting a lot of TOI or prime opportunities. It actually lends credence somewhat to the "under-scouted" theory.
I remember that report, it was something to do with having to go from Prague to Zlin and it was inconvenient or something odd and not a lot of scouts go there. It seemed odd, but not implausible.
Anyway, I think it's a bit premature to say Chytil should have been considered a top-ten guy, but consensus first round seems appropriate. I think he was picked in a good spot. There's immense talent there but given how young he is it's harder to project how it will all come together.
