4 Goals & 4 Assists in 38 games can easily cause a player to not show up conspicuously on teams' radars. I can see why teams didn't jump on him as being a no-brainer Top 10 guy.

Snowfort, how strange that sounds. I'm trying not to doubt you...but how could an arena that players and fans attend be difficult for a scout to get to?

Thank God we had a European scout based in Slovakia that had no problems getting to Chytil's games in the Czech Republic. Jan Gajdosik had been following Chytil for over a year, noting his progress. He's the reason we drafted Chytil. Jan has been with us since 1993 (full-time since 2000). It's about time he hit pay dirt!

The production thing shouldn't matter too much if the scouts saw him. I mean you see Russian kids playing in the KHL and posting single-digit points, or kids in the SHL, and they're highly-touted and go round one. I mean when you're a teenager, in in Chytil's case a young 17, playing in a men's league unless you're Gretzky you're not getting a lot of TOI or prime opportunities. It actually lends credence somewhat to the "under-scouted" theory.

I remember that report, it was something to do with having to go from Prague to Zlin and it was inconvenient or something odd and not a lot of scouts go there. It seemed odd, but not implausible.

Anyway, I think it's a bit premature to say Chytil should have been considered a top-ten guy, but consensus first round seems appropriate. I think he was picked in a good spot. There's immense talent there but given how young he is it's harder to project how it will all come together.

He's got the out-clause so I'm fairly certain he can bail anytime after opening night.

Can anyone explain to me with certainty how this KHL out clause would work? I can't imagine it's a mutual contract termination as then he could just turn around and sign with an NHL team. Is it just a mechanism that allows him to force his way back to the KHL while we retain his NHL rights? If so, for how long do we retain his NHL rights?

Zlin is pretty out of the way, and from my visit this summer, it definitely seemed like regional transport wasn't really at the level I know they have in central Europe, and assume they have in the north.

Wow, I missed that somehow. He didn't look great but it's his first time playing with pros on NHL ice ever. I guess he didn't look good in practices either because that's a super short leash, especially measured against the looks some other obvious cuts got.

Gotta wonder if he's going to stay in the US or for how long.

They could probably see he needed more time to get used to the NA game...up to him whether he'll stay or bail.

I can't fulfill your request for certainty, but I would see no reason why his rights wouldn't belong to the Rangers through July 1, 2021. I think his NHL rights would work the same way as any other player, he'd just be playing overseas, like Lindberg's first year of his NHL contract of Soderstrom for the Isles.

No lines at practice?

These, according to Rangers website

Chris Kreider - Mika Zibanejad - Mats Zuccarello
Rick Nash - Filip Chytil - Pavel Buchnevich
Gabriel Fontaine - Lias Andersson - Matt Puempel
Paul Carey - Boo Nieves - Vinni Lettieri

Ryan McDonagh - Kevin Shattenkirk
Marc Staal - Tony DeAngelo
Brendan Smith - Steven Kampfer

Hank
Halverson

God dammit.

I guess I should take some solace in the fact that they're trying Smith out on the left side but I'd feel better if he were playing with DeAngelo instead of having TDA play with the ayatollah of pylons.

I read somewhere that the place he plays in is actually hard to get to. Like there aren't proper roads or something like that.

I think Smith is a better LD than RD, will be interesting to see if the Rangers try him there more often should that pan out well for this game.

McDonagh shouldn't play the PP, neither should Skjei.

Go with 4 forwards on both PP's, Shattenkirk on one, DeAngelo on the other. McDonagh and Skjei need heavy ES and PK minutes because if not, I don't know how we are going to keep goals out. I certainly don't want those minutes going to Staal and Holden.

I see it as a foreshadowing of the D to start the season. Smith-Kampfer as the 3rd pair when Staal sits, Skjei-DeAngelo would be the 2nd unit in that case. Pionk and Graves open the season in the A, Holden traded.

Putting a specific d-man on the PP because he gives you the best chance at preventing shorthanded goals is like an NFL coach putting his fastest cornerback 10 yards behind the QB when his team has the ball on the opponent's 5 yard line just in case the QB throws an interception.

No, it isn't, unless you believe that the opposition gaining control of the puck happens at the same rate as interceptions.

Just as excited as anyone else to see the kids get a shot but at the end of the day i wouldnt want to be responsible in making the decision to keep them here or send them back to continue their development especially for FC. Just don't want to mess with their development but FC seems to be oozing talent and seems like he wants to stay in NY

agreed but i feel Skjei is underrated on the pp (albeit most of his points came at ES i believe) but i would be cool keeping him on the second pp unit or just having him see heavy ES time.
Besides Shatty i feel he can get the puck to the net just as good as anyone else on this team from the point. Lets hope DeAngelo works out well to lead the second pp unit

I think there is a 100% chance one of them plays the max 9 games.

75% both do.

95% Andersson plays the 9

60% Chytil plays the 9

45% chance either one sticks the entire year.

Chytil definitely has the best offensive skill, I think they let him grow into his body more. If he puts on 15-20lbs of muscle he can dominate games.

Andersson probably already at his max size. Defensive responsibility is better than chytil and that why i give him the higher chance. He needs to adjust to smaller ice and understand NHL scoring.

How did you get those probabilities?

I think you made a typo. By my calculations, if LA and FC respectively have 95% and 60% probabilities of playing max 9 games, then the probability of both playing max 9 games is 0.95 * 0.60 = 57%. Or am I missing / misinterpreting something? Note: I'm not trying to be a dick -- just a bit of a math nerd. :)

Haven't been to an actual hockey in a while. This will be exciting!

First Rangers game to boot!

Too early to claim Chytil should've been a top-10 pick, IMO. However, scouts have soured on the Czech program in recent years. They just haven't been producing much talent lately.

Look at the last few quality players from that country that established themselves in the NHL. Most of them were taken in the late first round and beyond. I think the last one to go in the top-10 was Voracek and he was already playing in the QMJHL at that point.

Pavel Zacha went 6th in 2015.

I read somewhere that the place he plays in is actually hard to get to. Like there aren't proper roads or something like that.

Well, not really that hard to get to...just the motorway is under reconstruction last two years, which can make the drive much longer than you'd like. I saw somewhere that just something like 16 teams have their scout for Czech league and I guess most of those are Prague based...Zlin is one of the cities furthes away from Prague and those that are further away can be reached by plane. So I guess most scouts are lazy to go to Zlin often and would usually chose closer team games.
