What does everyone think the odds of Chytil starting with the Rangers are. Andersson? Both?

I am interested to see what this means for Desharnais and Fontaine. Lots of question marks about this NYR roster for what feels like the first time in a long time. It's difficult to even project a starting lineup.

please, please, please....

no more 27 on the PP ever

please

with 22, 77 and 76 on this team, please never let 27 ever leave the bench on another PP

i cannot watch any more shots into shin pads, blocked, deflected, missed high and wide or otherwise just turned over from the PP point.

he.
is.
not.
a
PP
guy.

no more 27.

I'm in agreement. The PP could use some new blood, especially with the acquisition of Shattendeuces.

4 Goals & 4 Assists in 38 games can easily cause a player to not show up conspicuously on teams' radars, either. I can see why teams didn't jump on him as being a no-brainer Top 10 guy.

Snowfort, how strange that sounds. I'm trying not to doubt you...but how could an arena that players and fans attend be difficult for a scout to get to?

Thank God we had a European scout based in Slovakia that had no problems getting to Chytil's games in the Czech Republic. Jan Gajdosik had been following Chytil for over a year, noting his progress. He's the reason we drafted Chytil. Jan has been with us since 1993 (full-time since 2000). It's about time he hit pay dirt!

Apparently it's not great to go from Prague to Zlin, and that's where most teams have their Czech scouts based out of.
I've been told this, i can't verify it myself...

Like, it's 2017, it's obviously not hard to go anywhere... But it could be inconvenient so scouts go to other places instead.

Good info, Tobbe. Fortunately for us, Jan deemed it worthy of the inconvenience. :)

Too early to claim Chytil should've been a top-10 pick, IMO. However, scouts have soured on the Czech program in recent years. They just haven't been producing much talent lately.

Look at the last few quality players from that country that established themselves in the NHL. Most of them were taken in the late first round and beyond. I think the last one to go in the top-10 was Voracek and he was already playing in the QMJHL at that point.

I think there is a 100% chance one of them plays the max 9 games.

75% both do.

95% Andersson plays the 9

60% Chytil plays the 9

45% chance either one sticks the entire year.

Chytil definitely has the best offensive skill, I think they let him grow into his body more. If he puts on 15-20lbs of muscle he can dominate games.

Andersson probably already at his max size. Defensive responsibility is better than chytil and that why i give him the higher chance. He needs to adjust to smaller ice and understand NHL scoring.

I don’t understand how Chytil wasn’t a consensus top 10 pick

Late riser and didn't play in a "traditional" young prospect league. Seems like most of his exposure came from some international tournaments, not like the Czech league was heavily scouted for young prospects

Re: McDonagh on the PP. I don't even think he's *that* bad to be honest, but with so few options they ran the PP through him and he's not really suited for that. He has good hands, can hold onto the puck, hold the blueline, walk the blueline, gets a wrist shot through traffic, but doesn't have a dangerous slapshot, and tends to move the puck a little too carefully to be a real QB back there.

If they keep him on the PP the strategy needs to shift from him running it to him helping facilitate a guy like Shatty or DeAngelo.

I think you nailed McD on the PP. I'd keep him there, but as you said, run it through Shatty and ADA.

I think running 4 forwards 1 D with a legit PP QB has statistically proven to be a better PP setup but I'm not sure AV/Arniel will do it. Could have someone like Zucc maybe working the other point

One of the main reasons that McDonagh continues to see PP time is because he is a great skating back-skating defenseman that AV trusts - he is there to make sure that we don't let up any shorthanded goals. Whether or not I agree with that mindset is something else, but it is me trying reconcile why AV gives McDonagh so much time out there.

Our PP would benefit by having 3 righties on the top unit, so ADA, Shatty, and Mika with Kreider and Zucc. You get the best puck movement and set up for one timers that way

Putting a specific d-man on the PP because he gives you the best chance at preventing shorthanded goals is like an NFL coach putting his fastest cornerback 10 yards behind the QB when his team has the ball on the opponent's 5 yard line just in case the QB throws an interception.

I really liked Buch and Chytil together on the PP a couple of games back. Hope we get to see that again.

Yeah, their passing was incredible and difficult for the other team to catch up with. Thy both need to shoot more often though, especially on the PP. They passed up on some good chances to shoot so that they could make the 8th, 9th, 10th pass.

The only thing about Chytil that I haven't liked so far is that he seems to aimlessly float a bit too much in the defensive zone. The good thing is that its a skill that can be taught.

He was sent down after the game he played in

Wow, I missed that somehow. He didn't look great but it's his first time playing with pros on NHL ice ever. I guess he didn't look good in practices either because that's a super short leash, especially measured against the looks some other obvious cuts got.

Gotta wonder if he's going to stay in the US or for how long.

He's got the out-clause so I'm fairly certain he can bail anytime after opening night.
