Reunanen looked really good. I know he's most likely going back to Finland per what the Rangers told Larry, but he deserves a longer look. Quinn put him out at the end which I think speaks a lot.

Huska was very good. He's porbably about where Georgiev was two years ago. Let him see a lot of rubber in the AHL and let's see where he is at year's end.

Rest of the veterans played a standard "1980s first preseason game." Nothing to see here folks, moving right along.

Yeah I'm curious how this D does when it's fully equipped. Lindy Ruff is going to be the whipping boy here soon.

I'd like to see Reunenen get a look tomorrow with Fox or maybe game 4 with TDA. I hope Gettinger and Lemiuex play tomorrow night and that Kravstov gets more time with Panarin resting.

Howden is making the team, don't be silly. He'll start at 4C if he's being outplayed by Anderson.

Also everyone quick reminder: don't freak out it's preseason. Giants went 4-0 and they're a disaster. I don't care if the Rangers go 0-6 if they get off to a good start, who cares.

Didn't see a ton of the game, but expected it to be tough with this lineup.

Not to mention, other than Haley the whole lineup was getting their first game of preseason in. Most of the Devils players were two in.

Reunanen looked solid for a debut. He'll be prominent in Hartford should he play there.

Think Howden saw Andersson's game the other night? Don't think his spot is 100% certain, especially if the minutes are available in the AHL.

I agree. I think Howden is in trouble.

I don’t take much of anything out of tonight with that grade F lineup. Reunanen looks excellent, Lindgren was good as was Huska. I don’t want to see Morrow even get a AHL deal let alone be the 7th defenseman. Keane has talent but was so sloppy. Geertsen was a non-issue for me, just a filler because Rykov was hurt. Fontaine continues to show he’s a 4th line option with the big club.

I expect to see a stronger lineup tomorrow night.

You commented knowing the personnel that dressed tonight, right?

I commented knowing that:

We’re still playing against the Devils and not a powerhouse

Other teams lineups are also going to get better, tighter and less rusty

Staal, Skjei, and company are still going to struggle against a lot of offenses

Lundqvist is still 37

Our forward group is still incredibly young

We still have a lot of unanswered questions at center

Trouba is not going to have nearly the support he had in Winnipeg’s lineup

Even if young talent takes significant steps forward, that there’s an ebb and flow to their development

That time is still going to be a major factor in traversing the road ahead of us, and that hasn’t changed despite our desire for it not to be.

So, you weren't commenting based entirely, even if partially, on tonight's game.

I think tonight’s game is microcosm of what we will likely see, and not entirely different than some of the struggles we saw in the first preseason game.

The names will change for us, but they will also change for the other teams as well.

Yes. I can agree.

Which ones do you find most humorous? Or is the irony in making a sweeping generalization about generalizations? ;) JK
Lol that’s true I am generalizing the generalizations ha. I didn’t mean you in particular though, I just laugh when we watch a period or two of split squad preseason games and we all start trying to draw conclusions from it. We all do it, I do it and I laugh at myself and try and remind myself its preseason and small samples and Yada yada yada.

Yes. I can agree.

Don’t get me wrong, I get that this isn’t our “A” lineup. But we also aren’t playing against “A” lineups or powerhouses. We just dropped a pair of games to a fellow basement dweller from last season.

It’s going to be a season with a degree of frustration.

Does Team C play tomorrow night?

What's Team C again? As I mentioned, I'm going to the game tomorrow night in Philly and was hoping I'd get to see Kakko, Kravstsov, Fox,Panarin, Chytl, Andersson, Shevy and some of our other cute little toys.

From sounds of it, I might not see any of them which would make me quite dissapointed even tho the parking, tickets, the suite, food and drink is all paid for by my daughters company. I mean shit, if I'm going to risk my life and my daughters life by wearing my Messier #11 jersey at the Well Fargo Center, I was hoping to at least hoping to be entertained by the A Team or at least some of them...lol

More than likely, the Rangers don't make the playoffs. I do like Jersey's chances, though.

I think the Devils have a fighting chance if they can stay healthy. They have their share of holes, but they’re a little further along as well.

Frankly, my hope is to have a cross section of progress from the young talent we already have, while also adding one or two more prime pieces via the draft.

It brings back memories. “Our offensive problems are over! We have Nathan Horton! We now have a defensive stalwart in Jay Bouwmeester! Gudbranson is the next Pronger! Frolik is the next Jagr!” And then reality sets in. Rebuilds are intricate and usually painful — unless you win the Ovechkin, Crosby or McDavid sweepstakes. I just hope we get things right faster than most do.

We sucked....vets and no names.

Henrik.....ugh

I would’ve liked to have seen a bit more from the 7 guys who played tonight and are likely to be in our regular lineup - including the guy slated to get the first crack at the top RW spot, the guy we’re hoping can center our second line, and the aging vet who, for better or worse, will be our starting goalie.

Not necessarily world-beating dominance, but more than what I saw.

I believe we will get there, we have a ton of talent and a legit franchise player prospect. But it’ll probably take a little longer than some of the more optimistic projections. That’s not a bad thing. If anything, I’d say it’s normal.

But to your point, I am reminded of something Uncle Larry said a while back. He talked about the concept of a rebuild being a hell of a lot of more digestible than the reality of living through one.

How did Huska look?
Was there tonight and Huska looked pretty good. Made a series of terrific saves in the third period.
Also thought Lindgren was very competitive and didn't look out of place.
Will save my criticisms for some of the other guys that looked like crap lol
Hope Buch is gonna look a bit better if he wants to keep up with Zibby and Panarin
