just bought my NHL.tv subscription for the year.

For all my fellow out-of-towners, according to NHL.com, this game will be available for streaming tonight.

Can't wait to see him tonight. I don't know if I'm in the minority here, but I'm much more excited about him than Lias.

He's got more "sexy" upside but also a bit more of a mystery as to how he'll turn out. Real interested to see him with real NHL talent at quasi NHL level of play

I`m happy that AV start with M. Staal on the third pairing, but I don`t care about result tonight. I`m interested to follow closely on some players including M. Staal, Lias, Hayes, & Chytil and how they perform is important here. The line combinations looks really wierd - I don`t like it this evening.

:help:

Somebody help out a foreigner. Where has this Chytil kid come from and which current NHL centers would you compare him to?

2017 draft pick out of the Czech Republic.

I haven't seen his play other than YouTube highlights.

Scouting reports praised his skating, shot, vision, puck skills, and he was also good on the defensive side, too. He PK'ed at the international level and had good anticipation. No problem with playing the gritty side of things. He's still raw, but he's pretty complete in that raw skill. It's all there, and he was one of the youngest in the draft to boot. If it works out well, he's a real smart pick.

I've seen comparisons to Tyler Johnson and one HF user compared him to Paul Stastny a ways back, but aside from not seeing much in those comparisons, I have two problems.

TyJo is smaller and not nearly as physical. Stastny doesn't have speed and isn't very consistent.

Maybe just a small guideline. But we'll have more opinions as we see him in preseason. Keep in mind he is young, and he still has developing to do.

If it all goes according to plan, I'd expect a top-6, smooth-skating, 2-way center with some offense. Sky's the limit.

I am as well. I think we knew what we were getting with Lias so him doing pretty well isn't too surprising. Chytil has all the raw skill. I'd like to see where he's at. He's one of the youngest in that draft. If he's ahead of the curve, that's amazing for us.

Have there been any cuts yet? I know sometimes after the first game teams make some cuts.

Haven't heard anything other than Gettinger/Kovacs/etc. from a few days ago.

I like the plan of mixing rookies with veterans. Pooling them separately really doesn't do much to show how the more promising young prospects might perform in standard NHL duty.

Barring Andersson and Chytil making the team, AV is tipping his hand.

Zibanejad will replace Chytil with Kreider and Zuccarello, Buchnevich will replace Schneider or whoever that AHL guy was with Nash and Miller, Grabner will replace Gropp with Hayes and Vesey. And then the fourth line until Fast returns will be three of Desharnais, Desjardins, Nieves and the AHL'ers.

Harder to tell with the defense.

Exactly!

If you have three prospects on the same line, that's meaningless since chances are none of them are going to start game 1 of the regular season.

I like the idea of mixing rookies with vets in the hopes that it scares the vets and lights a fire under them. Pro athletes are way too coddled.

Probably fair assessment, we know AV likes to look for forward pairs

D has been all over the place so far but I still think it's very fair to say the top four will be as expected with McD-Shattenkirk, Skjei-Smith

I agree, just hard to tell what the combinations will be, given we haven't seen this combination of players play together yet, and the only position we probably know for sure is McDonagh playing 1LHD, the rest could be any combination of that. And then even with the bottom pair on defense, is it Staal and Holden? Bereglazov? DeAngelo? Graves? Pionk? The defense is going to be the real roster and lineup choices to start this season. The offense is pretty much just whether or not the two first round picks make it and how the fourth line is configured.

My guess for the third pairing is still that Staal or Holden sits to start the season so they can have a young player in there to see how they do. Staal/Holden might not sit every game but my thinking is they'll be giving extended looks to see what they have with some of these guys like Pionk, DeAngelo, and Bereglazov. If one of them impresses enough then we could see a trade or Holden/Staal being a more permanent 7th D until someone struggles.
