preseason hockey isn't exactly "real" hockey

Also, players are still trying to find the line they can toe with the faceoffs and it's going to be called tightly at least through the preseason, maybe they'll loosen up a bit when the season starts

No, I get that. I feel like that these penalties are just destroying the flow of the game. If they continue calling it like this into the regular season it really won't be good for the on ice product. The new face-off rule is absurdly ****ing stupid.

Leetch was a great player, but not a great captain. Leetch is one of my favorite all-time players but he never really seemed comfortable being the captain.
I would argue that Messier was a terrible player and leader in his second stint with the Rangers (I know, heresy, bring out the pitchforks) and worse than Leetch by far.

Possession is all the more important if they're even 10% serious about calling slashing. Marc Staal giving up on hockey and letting 98 out of 100 forecheckers get to the puck first and simply settling for tying up the man in the D zone will destroy us if Staal gets minutes.

Really? I think he has looked really confident. I'm happy with what I see.

Oops just like that we have a goal. :)

Ya I kinda opened my mouth at the wrong time but still It was mostly Vesey and dare I say Hayes anyway so :p:

Hayes has his head up with the puck in the offensive zone more so far. Maybe he did get smarter in the off season.

yah I agree but I assume they're using preseason to "crack down" on it and make their point since points aren't on the line and isn't not "real" hockey

I'm not sure anyone will argue that Messier wasn't ineffective in his return to the Rangers. He unfortunately kind of brought the good old boy mentality back with him in a time when teams were starting to move beyond that

Staal does look bad but I'm also probably biasing myself against him.

Well much better pp performance today for sure - and that is promising since we have most of our PP guys with this group except maybe Nash & Miller, Zib - and I`m not sure if Ryan Mc. will be on the second PP unit when the season start. :)

Chytil just wants it. I love what I'm seeing from this kid so far.
How old is he? 18?

I was typing my response before the goal. I just had some good (or lucky) timing with the post. What I liked is seeing a confident guy leading the rush with his head up. I did not see any panic passes from him yet. Now being a preseason game may play a little bit of a role in that. You can see he thinks offense.

I thought Vesey had a fantastic period. Doing his usually energetic buzzing around...made some solid defensive plays/pokes...and then the hook-up with Shatty and Hayes. Really like what I'm seeing.
