Andersson was impressive last night. I felt he had much more jump in his legs than previous years, and defensively he was very good for the majority of the game. Nice to see him pick up a G too.
Kravstov is so damn skilled. I thought at times he read the play well and at other times he was on the wrong side of the ice chasing pucks. He is sneaky as hell with the puck and so slick with the one touch passes and moves he makes. But that is what is working against him right now. We'll see how he performs in the next few games he gets into but im sure Quinn is going to review his game with him and let him know its not all about the flash and showy moves. I could see Kravstov starting with the Pack, but fortunately for the Rangers this kid has a great head on his shoulders and will listen to the feedback and grow from it, I'm sure of that.
Shestyorkin was pretty solid but he definitely needs some seasoning in the AHL before they bring him into the NHL. He could use a month or two or three of games in North America to acclimate to everything including the rink size, which is a factor but I think it gets a little overblown. I think it's more about the pace of play and adapting his game to successfully navigate the traffic and screens that every team sets a priority on in this league.
Fox is as cool as they come. Im sure hell have his moments on the back end where he is exposed, but he makes up for it in spades all over the ice with smart passes, pinches, look-offs, keeps and sneaky accurate shots and puck play. Looking forward to seeing how he fares against a consistent barrage of NHL forwards bearing down on him.
Zibanejad will be named captain. The Rangers had a twitter feature on him and MSG played that 5 minute feature on him with all of teammates praising him. Sure looks like they are warming up the fanbase to present him with the C. He picked up right where he left off. Damn is he fun to watch. As a right-handed center myself, it is great to watch how controlled, confident and solid he is in his abilities. It seems like he has really matured off the ice the last couple of seasons and has really earned the nomination if the Rangers indeed give it to him.
If McKegg continues to play the way he has he's earned a 4th line/13th forward roster spot in my book.
Skjei - I think it would be silly to automatically ink him into the top d pair. The Rangers really dont have another option to take on those minutes on the left side, which is part of the problem. Ill admit I wasnt watching him much for the same reasons, but that in itself is an issue. We need this kid to start playing the way he did a few seasons back in the playoffs when he really took it to another level. He has seemed to regress since then, for whatever reason. Quinn and the staff need to take a close look at this kid and stay on him. There's too much stock put into him going forward.
Kreider - I know, I know. Wait until his usual disappearing act. But I tell you what - listening to Joe speak about how he feels in the best shape of his life as he goes into camp each year and how he makes it a point to switch up his diet and perfect the balance of it all (and I believe it) makes me pause when thinking about dealing him at the deadline. If there is ever a dude that could continue to be a power forward into his late 30s its Chris Kreider. And while we are all waiting for that next step of consistency in his game, it may be perfectly fine to stop. This is a guy who's durable and who's put up very consistent numbers his whole career. Maybe thats what you get every year, 25 goals, 25 assists. Except it goes on for another 8-10 seasons. He's that type of rare specimen.
