Kravstov had a breakaway
That's right! I had a feeling I couldn't be right about no quality chances. I stand corrected, there was one. Doesn't make me feel much better.

And Schneider did stand on his head. But all of those excellent saves were on the PP,.. minus the breakaway.

One of the more frustrating things for me was reading the definitive opinions on Lias from a LOT of people. Hell there were a good number of people looking to get rid of him.

He's the type of character who you bet heavily on in term of improving year to year. He has a massive drive/will to win, he's been a leader and he busted his ass harder than anyone in hockey last year going league to league to tourney and back.

He earned his way into the NHL way earlier than most do and had flaws that come with being younger than everyone else: athleticism and strength...things that are the easiest to train on and improve.

It is great to see him doing exactly what we all should have been expecting him to do.

Also, no offense to Russians but their pro league coaching seems to suck.

Guys come here with fundamental gaps in bare basics. Training off ice, positioning, overall game knowledge. Gaps that shouldn't be there. I strongly suspect they let superb talent just do its thing but they don't hammer in the fundamentals the way they should

Anyone who has a definitive opinion on Lias at this moment (one way or the other) needs to take a step back. Let the kid develop and actually grow into his body first.

Kakko was in pain after he wiped out behind the net. No contact with the boards, just the ice.

Hard to say what it was exactly. There's a lot of padding where he fell. Could be a bruise, could be a knee sprain.

It was the hit right before the sequence when he got knocked down behind the net. I'm sure he is fine.

My guess is he was hurting from the little cross check to his lower back right before he fell. He also kind of twisted his body in order to land on his belly. His knees might've hit the ice a little bit.

Just started reading this thread..I though lias Andersson was horrible to start the game and just got better and better and better as the game went on. By the end his cumulative game was probably the best forward who wasn't on that top line.

Skjei was a disaster...just...awful...like I'm considering offering him a spot on my beer league team he's so crappy

Adam fox is realllllly smart . But his skating is definitely his weakest point no questions asked.

Trouba has a bomb...I can't remember the last time we had a defenseman who had a hard shot like that.

Kakko was terrific as was panarin and zibenajad

Best player on the ice by far and away was Schneider...we dominated the power play...how we didn't get like 2 or 3 goals is just miraculous goaltending.

All I know is that Brendan Smith is going to be in Hartford, not because of his contract alone, but because he is awful. Crawley is an ECHL guy too. Guy was trying to massacre players instead of playing defense. Might fly in those levels, but not this one.

McKegg can skate, and forecheck. He's got a shot to make the squad over Nieves.
You can see the frustration on his face. Every bad play, penalty, or just zone pressure from the other team. He's so frustrated with himself or the situation that took place. He knows he's competing for a spot and might not get one.

Kreider was really impressive to me, in the limited but I saw. He was all over the place, in a good way. So fast.
If only we can teach him to stick handle and skate at the same time. Just keep skating and he'd burn so many more players, but when he stick handles / takes wide cuts, he loses so much speed.

what I saw from the team is exactly what I think we -- must -- expect this season.
We have had an extreme turn-over on our roster, impacting the core of all lines and all special teams.

Normally I would agree with this. But after watching Vegas go to the finals in its first season, I can't help but think it is possible for a team to start fresh and have an impact. Meaning a year and a half rebuild might be enough.

Was I excited Zibanejad was practically a point per game player for us last year?... No because we sucked. And I will feel the same this year, if we don't play well.

He passed up on a few chances to shoot the puck. He's got a good wrist shot, I don't know why he chooses to do that in high percentage areas. Especially when flying down the wing with speed.

that PP1 was pure porn....

Here's where the Rangers ranked in league PPG the last 8 years...20, 16, 14, 25, 26, 17, 24, 20

Basically middle of the pack - bottom of the league every year. That's gonna change this year and it will be glorious to watch.

I'm watching the game now via stream and holy f..
Those first 5 minutes, Kakkos passes created like 4 scoring chances and had one himself.

Along with his vision and awareness, he's so so so smart with the puck, like a savvy vet. Posseses excellent puck control and escapability to allow himself the opportunity to make a play when it seems like there's nothing available. Also not holding on to the puck too long that the play dies or he gets surrounded (Hayes his first 2 years). Makes the smart simple play when the home run isn't available to keep the play going. Little things that are just so impressive for an 18 year old.

Yeah!
When he gets used to his linemates & smaller rink I think he will become even better player

Yea that PP1 was amazing to watch... granted it was against the JV devils.

My short and quick takes, agreeing with most posters:
  • Adam Fox was the best dman on the ice last night
  • Trouba has a very calming presence about him and a laser of a shot
  • Panarin... yea dude was just toying out there. He's going to be a treat to watch
  • Skjei worries me being a top pair guy, but I hope I'm wrong
  • Zib is future captain material
  • Kravtsov I thought had moments of pure skill and other moments of being a Zherdev-lite
  • Kaapo Kakko is UNREAL. Hoping he's not pulling a Danny Almonte and that he is actually 30 years old. Guy is so comfortable out there and strong with the puck. Going to be hearing a lot of Kaapo to Zib/Panarin this year on that PP.

My thoughts about last night! F you NHL.TV

Wow, that sucks. Is there a one-device limit now? With this and blackouts, they basically breed the illegal market of streams.

This started happening to me during the last week of the regular season last year. I figured it was simply a glitch. Fast forward roughly 5 months and same issues. Even bought a new Chromecast to see if would fix the issue. I can watch games on my phone or computer but every time I try to cast it to the Chromecast I get this message. And I even changed my password prior to the game last night. It's a shambles. So I also bought an Apple TV. We'll see if it works tomorrow night. Fingers crossed.

I had the same problem you did. Every time the feed went to commercial and NHLTV tried to stub in their own (garbage) commercials, the stream would lock up and crash. After that happened a few times I started getting the same error message about my account being in use at another location, which means the session established before the stream crashed was still active and it was preventing me from establishing a new one. The location part of the warning is just BS. FWIW, I had better luck just streaming of my phone instead of casting to my Shield TV or Chromecast.

Also, leaving the {appName} wildcard marker in the error message is just crap error handling and offensive to me as a software engineer.
