ESPN did a feature, a Power Ranking of all teams over the next three years. Teams were scored on current roster, prospects, cap situation and contracts, front office, ownership, and coaching.

Rangers were fifth overall (behind Colorado, Tampa, Vegas, and Boston). Our roster was ranked 20th, prospects 1st, cap/contracts 4th, owner/GM/coach 10th. Composite score was 83 (1.1 points from being third, but 4+ points behind Colorado and Tampa).

Devils were ninth overall. 18th on roster, 4th on prospects, 9th on cap/contracts, 9th on coach/GM/owner. Composite score was 80.9.

Canes were 8th, Flyers were 12th, Isles 15th, Caps 18th, Jackets 20th, Pens 21st.

It's behind a paywall.

Ugh I cannot stand this overhyping of MacKinnon. Like its an established FACT he's a top 3 player in the league? Most having him number 2 after McJesus? He's a great player but ffs , he's not better Crosby, Kucherov, Kane, Ovechkin, and others. And people pegging Colorado as a cup favorite are just as bad.

Colorado is 100% a cup contender. Do you not see their current roster and what it has a good chance to be after 82 games? They have prospects for trade deadline moves and made moves to improve their team depth.

They are the team best set up to contend and be good for however long MacKinnon's contact is.

They are not a cup contender this year. Kadri is nice but whats the rest of that second line? Burakvosky and Donskoi? Their best d-man is a rookie. Grubauer is as average as you can get in goal. They spanked a fraud Flames team and then lost to a good, not great Sharks team in round 2 (who shouldn't have even made it that far) and everyone wants to f***in crown em

I'm going to be more pessamistic on the Devils because to be honest they're a rival and I don't particularly want them to do well...they kind of set themselves up to be mildly competitive in the next few years, especially if Hall re-signs, but I don't see the complete team talent there for a legitimate cup run and I'm not sure I see the prospect depth to get them there in the future either. They have some good pieces and maybe if they can keep Hall and get some exceptional play out of Hughes and Hischier while keeping them both under contract at a reasonable rate, they can manage to build around that, but their prospect pool is a bit lacking and for all the moves they pulled this summer, they're all pretty much short term moves. So, it'll be interesting to see if they can legitimately build around their top 2 centers in a way that lets them compete

It's not something to get too excited about though. I don't like the Devils and would rather not have them be a good team. They have important D in place under 25 and Ty Smith coming along. I think Smith is going to be a hell of a player. As far as offense--Hall is a franchise player--they need to sign him. Barring some unforeseen event Hughes will be a franchise player too. Those two guys make everyone who plays with them a better player. And then there's Hischier who might not have the same potential as Hughes but should become a legit 1st line player. They have a lot of good pieces and pieces that you can build a contending team around. Do they have anywhere near the depth in prospects we do? Not really but as is now they're not in bad shape at all. They need better goaltending.

Expecting KK to come out wearing 24 but also a preseason, XFL-inspired He Hate Me nameplate.

everyone remembers He Hate Me but the real XFL hero was this guy:

Thanks. Oh joy I get to see that wonderful first pairing on D. I mean couldn't they have at least thrown in Kravtsov for game 2? Anyway, almost certain to see Lemieux mix it up against his dad's old team. Look forward to seeing the new and improved Chytil at center.

 ...do I detect a false note? Harsh on Raddysh :naughty:
