Skjei had a rough night, but holy ****, can some of you relax? It's the first pre-season game. Takes time to get into game shape in all ways, physically and mentally. He will be fine.
Didn't seem to be an issue for Fox.

someone forgot to tell fox and kakko that they are rookies and were supposed to be nervous for their first games at msg...both play with the poise of a veteran. kakko running the pp in his first period. very nice

If you have 2 players that can shoot like that on the PP, you have to utilize that IMO.
Whoever is on the 2nd PP goes against 2nd PK unit which isn't nearly as strong..
The ice time the second units usually get so much less ice time than the first unit, so in a different way you’re wasting that talent there too

He was turning and got hit in the lower back, fell down on his belly.

Yup I saw the play when it happened...just didn't think it was that bad.

Well looks like when I'm at the game in Philly on Saturday, this probably kills my chances of seeing Panarin for sure and maybe Kakko too....dangit.

All in all for what just might have been the most anticipated preseason game I can ever recall, it lived up to the hype. Fun game, a bit ticked with the Bread and Kakko boo boo's but overall, I think we are in for a heck of a fun season.

I'm with @jas, if he defense can even play average to a little better than that, I think we'll have enough offense for sure and probably goaltending to contend for one of those last playoff spots.

After over decade of making long runs in the playoffs and not having made it for past two years, I'm jonesing for some meaningful March/April hockey again...looks like we got a pretty decent shot at some.

Defense still a tire fire...all playoff hopes remain chained to that tire fire.

My expectation is that this isn’t a playoff team.

If they make it, great.

But I’ll be satisfied with a finish in the 8-12 draft range, and substantial progress from the kids and the players who have long-term futures here.

Staal, Smith, and others are what they are, and there will be a number of vets who will undoubtedly leave me wanting more, but progress for our kids will be essential and welcome.

Hell, top that off with another lottery win, and I can live through this season without too much long-term frustration.

McKegg is going to make this team, and it’s because he’s the type of player coaches love.

I said something similar earlier. I loved McKegg's engine. Admittedly tho I watch most players in the league due to my fantasy hockey participating in two money leagues, McKegg was a guy I don't even recall noticing in a game.

If this is what we are in for...I'm all in. Not sure there is room for him but he seems to be the perfect 4th liner and like you say, you just know Quinn is going to luv this guy. Good start for him and I'll be keeping a close eye on him when I see him and the boys live in Philly on Saturday nite.

My take from the Game. All the young guys who were supposed to impress did. Crawley was bad. Skjei not so hot.

The power play looked awesome. 1st line was great--Kreider was fine. McKegg looked really good. Ditto Shesterkin. Kravtsov a decent first outing. Fox looked really good.

One of the problems was we were chasing the game the entire night. The one killer play IMO was Crawley's miscue with the backhand pass that put us down two goals. That's being too f***ing cute. I actually like Crawley but plays like that do not help you stick around. He needs to keep shit simple because he ain't a cute with the puck player. And more than anything that was the play that kept us chasing the game.

At the end of the day it doesn't count but IMO we had somewhat better personnel in this one than the Devils and were playing at home so it would have been nice to win.

Is it just me or has the universe just thrown us all a dose of you really can’t bank or rely on anything if your a sports fan.

Are we not sitting here praying that panarin and kakko haven’t gotten some sort of csreer debilitating injury and thrown our assumed future and ‘fandom’ substance into the Knicks realm

The ice time the second units usually get so much less ice time than the first unit, so in a different way you’re wasting that talent there too

Depends on your roster and how you coach it.
I think you need to split the time accordingly when you have 2 of the same weapons.

Obviously it’s the preseason but I’d wager a guess Gorton is going to sell high on Skjei before the rest of the league figures out he’s not so good

He did not look good tonight. And usually he’s just average otherwise
