Both are RFA. I don't expect Bibeau to get qualified after a season like this. I am curious to know why you don't think they would keep Sparks though. At worst he's a very good minor league goalie and you can't develop position players if they are getting shelled every night. If they lose him they need to acquire another quality AHL starter so what is the incentive to create the hole in their lineup? Or are you maybe thinking they will be grabbing a goalie prospect that shakes loose in the X draft? That makes some sense, but I think I would need the club to indicate they were looking there before I assumed Sparks is heading out. The only way I see him going is with a better guy being added from the outside. Kaski might stilldevlop some but it would be a potential disaster to go into nest season assuming Kaski/Massa/Bibs will give what Sparks gave this year.
If you watch the actual Marlies games closely, you will see why I take this stance... And if you look at the shots against each game between the two goalies, you will also see that Bibs averages more shots against "almost" each game, than Sparks does.. Sparks is also more of a individual, than a team player..
Off the ice, is where my main concern is though.. and I won't go into details when it hasn't been presented publicly, yet..
Yes.. I think we will sign another goalie prospect in this Draft.. and possibly another free-agent signing..
I would love to see Outhouse come here, if we can't get Pekka-Lukonnen.. (and there was n older, dark-horse goalie signed to the Solar Bears this past week, that I have heard good things about.. Check the Marlies/Prospects video/stats thread in here, last page, for more info..
Honestly, though.., I haven't given up on either of them... There is no room for them right now..., McElhinney has been a great back-up.. and neither Sparks or Bibs have matured/developed enough to be sitting on a bench as back-up most games... Best to keep them both playing for one more season.., imo..
I have said it a million times already, but goalies take longer to develop.. More patience is needed..
....and Leafs Nation is probably the worst with a "lack of patience".., which is where this whole conversation got started yesterday,
with Dark Knight putting down Bibs.., after I posted the latest video..
