I don't really want circumstances to allow him into the net with the leafs in the most important stretch of hockey we've seen in a few years. I'm fine with him as a prospect, but this isn't the time to test him at the NHL level.

I am looking forward to him putting together a good playoff run with the Marlies though.

Re: Toninato - he has an advantage with being a C, and we will be clearing some dead weight vets, but he still isn't a guarantee for an ELC, Cameranesi certainly didn't set the league on fire this year.

I believe it would be a 2 year ELC for him.
Yeah, I don't *want* to see those circumstances either, and so far so good.
Marlies seem primed to make a nice playoff run with their depth and talent - goaltending consistency will be the key. Sparks has been the most consistent the past couple of years, hope they ride him through this year.
Re, Toninato, 2 year ELC makes sense and is a good fit - thanks for the reply. Haven't looked at contract numbers, and it's a definite numbers game, but it's not inconceivable for him to get one.
Could make sense to sign Boyle for two, and let Goat and Toninato duke it out for future 4th line C duties. If/when either beats him out, he can shift to the wing or just mentor.
Am more interested in Dakota Joshua for the upcoming year, tbh. He has one or two years left in the NCAA? If it's one, he might get an ELC himself.

Agreed.

Question to everyone. Was Toninato ever considered a good defensive player before this season. I certainly don't remember seeing it mentioned before when talking about him.
Wonder if he transformed his game a bit this year, knowing that may be his angle to have a shot at the NHL someday.

Better chance to beat out Gauthier for a job someday then Nylander for example.

I've watched a fair bit of the Bulldogs over the past few years:

He's always been good but he's definitely turned it up a notch this season. Apparently he really wants to turn pro - almost did so last season but family wanted him to finish his degree. Seems as if he spent this season further honing his defensive game in case his scoring/shot didn't translate well in the AHl/NHL in order to earn a. Roster spot.

I can see him being a good option for the Leafs 4C in a season or two from now.

Good to have competition for every spot on the roster going forward. Hopefully we see him in a Marlies jersey next year.

Brett Findlay seems to be the second coming of Byron Froese. Late blooming C who's starting to become a very effective AHL player. Having guys like this is awesome if they are able to come up and play a depth role on your NHL team if injuries hit.

So,I had my first chance to see Adam Brooks live last night as Regina defeated Calgary 5-2 in Calgary. I'll extrapolate hugely on the basis of this one game but, hey, that is what a board like this is for. Besides, we all enjoy playing the amateur scout or GM. Take all this for what it is worth.

The main positive about Brooks, IMO, is that he has a never stop motor. (This is more the case than with Steel, though I will mention him in more detail later.). He also has excellent hands, especially giving and receiving passes. He is a better than average skater at the junior level but I don't know whether that would still be the case in the pros. Still, his anticipation and his energy level may compensate for possibly not being a top tier NHL skater.

He is definitely not big. I have seen him listed at both 5'10 and 5'11. The former is closer to the truth, I think, and may still be a little generous. It is hard to tell about physique under a loose sweater, but I suspect he will need time in the weight room in order to be a successful pro. Of course, he was playing with big wingers, including the massive (and not particularly good) Sens pick, Filip Ahl. Maybe that made him look smaller. Whether or not that is the case, however, he would be a below average sized NHL forward.

He had one of those games in which he played hard but the puck just seemed to bounce in the wrong direction. Perhaps his most impressive play was to circle back to receive the puck at his own blueline, and beat his opposite number in the neutral zone with an almost Marner like move. He was breaking into the zone with the defense spread too wide and backing up with a big opening in the slot directly ahead of him... and his winger went offside. That was somewhat typical of the way things went for him.

Brooks got one assist on a power play, on which he received a pass at the point and very quickly delivered a low, accurate, but not particularly hard shot, that was easy to deflect. The deflection was successful and a goal resulted. Brooks regularly initiated the power play from the point, often passing to the winger, cutting through the middle, almost as in a basketball play and then receiving the puck by the side of the net. From there he would dish off quickly to an open teammate. With better finishing, he would have had at least one more assist. After taking an early lead, however, Regina laid back a bit and didn't play with much urgency against an obviously weaker opponent. Brooks also was effective on the PK.

I think Brooks is definitely a centre. I don't know what his stats were on the faceoff, but he didn't seem particularly strong in that area. I think he might have the possibility to be a third line center if he builds up his physique and makes the transition to defense first play. He would have the offensive skill to chip in when opportunity arises in that role, largely because of those good hands, I think. He will be a useful addition to the Marlies, next season, IMO. After that, well, we will all see how he develops.

I also watched Steel with interest, since the Ducks took him with the first of the picks they received in the Andersen trade. Steel was the first star of the game, scoring a hat trick. Two of his goals were very pretty snipes off the rush, one of them shorthanded. I think his shot definitely looks better than Brooks. He is just a little bigger than Brooks and, of course, is two years younger. The Ducks have every reason to be happy he is in their prospect pipeline. At this point, he is not as defensively oriented as Brooks and is more of a one way player. (Though he too performed well on the PK.) I suppose you can excuse that in a league scoring champion in his D + 1 season. At present, it looks as if he would have to be a top six forward in order to make the NHL while Brooks could play in the bottom six, I think. In my view, he is a good player and the Ducks should be happy with their pick. He doesn't make me regret the Andersen trade, however. This could be one of those trades which benefits both sides, IMO.

Jack Walker: 2GP 2G 2A - Series tied 1-1
Nikolai Chebykin: 8GP 3G 5A (VHL) - very impressive

Anyone who doubts Bibs, needs to review this season.. and what his play was like.. and his numbers, with the Leafs..
They lose their mojo once in awhile, but all in all they are still progressing.. Goalies take more time.., to be consistent..

My 4th highlight-montage for Antoine Bibeau..., one of the Toronto Maple Leafs goalie prospects.., who played his first two NHL games
this past December.. and is now presently playing with the 2016-17 Toronto Marlies.., in the AHL...

In my opinion..., "Bibs" had a great first two games with the Leafs.. and although his numbers have
fallen in the past two months in the Marlies, since being sent back down.., I think that he will pick it up again soon..
...and continue moving forward..

It was probably a little bit puzzling to him, after winning his 2nd NHL game.., to be sent back down so fast..
His numbers were good.. McElhinney just arrived really fast..
