Bibeau picked a bad time to have his worst year. While its true any goalie has capacity to get better (Talbot was not even a good AHL goalie until 24) the chances of him getting resigned are slim to none if they can go out and roll the dice on a fresh prospect not coming off a shaky year. We'll see but its easiest for the club to cut ties and reload.
I wanted Outhouse last year after he killed it as a backup but the size bias cost him. I still like him, and I am confidant there are still Quicks and Belfours out there. They need to add a couple goalie prospects to their system. As for McElhinney he should be back unless they decide they need someone to push Andersen a bit and look for someone younger who still might have #1 aspirations, like Calgary did with Chad Johnson last year. I am good either way.
Quick is 6'1". It's on the cusp of being small, but if you are around there and super skilled, it won't matter. 6'2", 6'3" is where you typically want your goalies, unless you find bigger guys who are developed right. Outhouse's problem is he's like 5'11". Just not big enough these days, even if you are athletic.
I think you can get Bibeau on an AHL deal, and I think it's worth it. If Bibeau can't get a legit deal from us, he's probably not getting one from anyone. Give him a shot to regain his composure, but he'll have to fight Kaskisuo next year for ice time on an AHL deal.
I'd still consider Sparks over McElhinney, but I don't think you can go wrong either way. Sparks should be given a shot somewhere though, and I'd prefer it be here. I seriously think Sparks can do every McElhinney can right now + has the potential to be something more down the line. You know what you have in McElhinney.
Imagine if Sparks could perform well like some of those LA backups did and be flipped for assets? Then we'd have Kaskisuo + Bibeau ready to come up, or we can sign a vet next offseason. Worth the risk IMO.
