Matt wood 3 pt debut for Minnesota
Hopefully he keeps it up. Gives some credibility to the idea that last seasons lackluster production was atleast in part to being on a bad team.

Looks like Fink is staying hot with 1G 6A in 3 games

Nilsson has 1G 3A in 4 SHL games.

Edstrom is up to 2G 4A in 8 SHL games.

Some good starts from these guys

The Athletic did a "redraft" of 2023.

Big winners were Roest (175 to 55) and Hanzel (187 to 78)
Also, Sutter Muzzatti (?) jumped to 85 from 143 and Edstrom went to 14 from 32.

Wood dropped to 27 and Molendyk and Gibson had minor slips of 28 from 24
and 44 from 42 respectively.

Molendyk dropped? That's a little surprising, but I guess plausible based on other around him. I don't see him regressing any, but not necessarily a huge jump either.

Has The Athletic seen Hanzel play???

I will guess that the answer is NO.

Random NCAA player update:
Cole O' Hara 2G 3A 5P in 3 games.
Jr year at University of Massachusetts

Sticks out like a sore thumb because his best season to date in NCAA is 17P in 32 games. So he is a third of the way there after 3 games...

Might need to keep an eye on him.

I suspect Hanzel is firmly in the same boat as Prokop and Matier. Distinguished junior-level defensemen... but... if you play an overage year and/or start off in the ECHL, that does not bode well at all for your ultimate NHL upside. Hanzel had a great couple years in junior. But like those other 2 is probably lacking some fundamental skill level to ever be considered a significant NHL prospect. Fair enough. Being a star in junior hockey and getting drafted and signed to an NHL ELC is still a huge accomplishment. Not everybody is going to The Show.

I have hopes for Matier!

Prokop will be a project.

I have only doubts for Hanzel.

SHL
Edstrom - 3G 7A 10P in 11 games
Nilsson - 1G 6A 7P in 9 games

Edstrom leads forward production for the 19 and under crowd (could honestly expand that to 21 and under but he is just 19). Youngest forward with more points is 23. 25th of 224 forwards with games played.

Nilsson is top 5 for the same age group but has the points per game advantage on everyone not named Edstrom. 61st of 224 forwards with games played.

KHL
Surin - 3G 1A 4P in 14 games

NCAA
O'Hara - 4G 7A 11P in 7 games
Wood - 3G 9A 12P in 6 games
Fink - 2G 7A 9P in 5 games
Stiga - 1G 3A 4P in 4 games

O'Hara is a junior. Didnt change colleges but has had a significant jump in production. Not someone ive previously paid attention to but he is on pace to blow past his previous full season production.

Wood changed schools to a better hockey program and it shows. Now that he has some other goal scorers on his team, he has seen a significant production bounce in the assist category. On pace to double his previous best.

Fink in his sophomore effort is chugging along and looks to top last years point per game effort.

Stiga is 4th on his team in production during his freshman effort. Good start.

Per pNHLe on Dobber

O'Hara's production is showing 1st Line Upside.

Under the same metrics Wood and Fink both have "Super Star Level Production"...

I expect the numbers to come back to earth a bit, but no reason to not be excited abt both guys.

Edstrom and Nilsson's starts are encouraging as well

Marques is doing great.

Fink and Wood are maybe "par" for expectations?

Chistyakov and Kulonummi are producing. I imagine the former could have been playing for us this year if he had come over. Well, unless there is an organizational requirement to "overcook" for a few years in Milwaukee first? Carrier and Del Gaizo got cooked enough, I guess, while Fabbro never did. It wouldn't bode well for Chistyakov if the organizational philosophy REQUIRES him to start in Milwaukee. That's another way of just telling him to stay in the KHL forever.

Looks like Lind and Gojsic, and Muzzatti have been injured.

I guess the "stay at home D" in Gibson and MacKinnon are tough to evaluate on stats alone... just... usually final year junior D start to pile up at least some points, even when they have no real offensive upside as pros? :dunno: So that's a bit worrisome.

Ingram... what's up? The team is 8-3 and doing well, but he's flatlined. Also has missed some games. But would have been expected to be a top player on that team?
