Rumor: Prospect Matteau Jr article on RDS

DEVILS ALL THE WAY*

«Nous avons des principes et on va les respecter», a dit le directeur général Joël Bouchard lors d'une conférence de presse. Ce dernier lui reproche son manque de discipline.

The Gm of the team basically said that his organisation has principles and they aren't going to break them for anyone. He's basically saying that his lack of discipline was the main reason why he isn't with them anymore.

Part of me also wonders if he stayed up on the big club as long as he did because Lou and co. knew he was going to have problems in Junior and wasn't causing any up here...

Could be absolutely nothing to see here related to his NHL career...

Seriously, ALL of his suspensions seemed unnecessary and excessive. Benching for retaliatory penalties and now this?

I have yet to see ANYTHING that`d make me question his character and unless someone gives me a reason to change my opinion, it`s not going to change.

Worked so well with Kabanov that he's nowhere to be seen. :sarcasm:
I laughed hard.

I`m sorry but that`s just too much. I`m totally serious.

It`s one thing not to tolerate stupid penalties and trying to teach the kids how to avoid them. Making an affair out of it is a whole different story. This wouldn`t even be discussed if it happened in the NHL.

Are you serious???

So a 19-year-old(going on 20) is going to determine whether we go deep into the playoffs next year? okay then.....

No, using the pick instead of forfeiting it was a bad choice. Doubt we make the finals next year, making using the pick a bad choice. Does not help that Matteau is having issues with his junior team, but the point I was making was that drafting anyone with that pick was idiotic.

Or, he used the coaches kid as an example of what he's willing to do.

We'll never know the 'real' story.

He did take a lot of bad penalties this season with the Armada. The last one was probably too much.

He wasn't the only one on that team who got benched this season. I guess others learn the lesson and Matteau didn't.

Quite interesting point of view.

As per @MLalancette the Armada proposed flying Matteau Jr. home Saturday night, but he preferred taking the bus with fans instead.

Opposing fans hated Matteau Jr. He drew the ire from fans in PEI more than any other player I'd seen all year.

He was suspended once before this season as well, right?

Yet, he was continuously complimented on his work ethic here with the big club, and said the right things in the interviews, etc.

I really do question some of the details about this. Some times players can't handle certain situations, but there was just no real sign of this type of player/person at the NHL level.

He was told to stay out of trouble and not retaliate for the good of the team but did the opposite.

He's a guy that plays on the edge but if that's the type of player we got, he needs to learn to control his emotions in order to be effective or we'll be stuck with a forward that looks like Matt ****ing Cooke.

His attitude is way better than it was when he quit on his team in the middle of the playoffs at 17.

If you want to downplay what Matteau did and act as if it's not his fault, it's your problem. I just report what I've seen from him from a Q follower standpoint. I'm not a Armada or a Devils fan so I don't really have bias on this matter.

Because he really struggled to control his emotions on the big club

He was always AHL available next season. Now with him being released he could come back to NJ even if Armada are still in the playoffs

I'm pretty sure you're right, but I'm not 100%. That's not the way the language of the rule is written. This is a bit of unique circumstance... I doubt you see Matteau called up though.

I wouldnt mind giving him a few of the last games .

Personally I think there are some other kids who deserve a shot a bit more. He's got a spot all but locked up one day. Give him some extra time to think about his future. To steal a bit from Lou, when you have time on your side, you use it.

It would be really surprising if a 18 yo rookie would pull that kind of stuff in the NHL. I don't think his work ethic is in question, it's more about him controlling his temper on the ice. Of course, as a 18 yo, he'll be more timid in the NHL that he his with players his age. It's not as if it's that surprising to see Matteau Jr act this way. He was a bit like that also with the USNTDP.
