I have been following the Sens closely recently and Cowen looks very good for them.
He has been a scratch for OTT this season so if there is any hope of him being available I hopt MacT goes hard after him.

He should come a lot cheaper than Myers but would IMO be just as effective.

You make it known that you have no untouchables and you will be looking at a different class of players, not the Erhoffs, Edler's or Keslers who've played most of their best hockey.

Translation to other GMs: The Oilers are in panic mode, quick lets bend over their green management and steal their talented kids for a dime.

I'm sure Nashville would love to poach a Nugent Hopkins for a Josi and Poile would sing showtunes about why that's a good idea to Mac T.

Ya, very doubtful that's going to happen.

Ya, very doubtful that's going to happen.

Those are the types of offers you'd get, probably stuff like Josi + a bunch of picks for a Nugent Hopkins.

You're not going to get a call where someone is offering you Doughty or Subban for Eberle or something.

Did the Bruins get Shea Weber for Tyler Seguin? He's as good/better than any of our kids, the moment we make it known that we're shopping X player the other team is going to assume there is something wrong there that prevents them from being untouchable anyway.

Recently is the key. He's had a pretty disappointing season. He's had far more terrible games than good ones. They hoped he'd pair with EK, but he's been brutal in the top pairing. Jury is still out. I wouldnt pay what Ottawa would want.

The only way that makes any sense to me is if they're not planning on bringing in any other LHD help next year which would be bad IMO.

That would mean we have Ference, Marincin and Fraser for the left side next year. No Klefbom, Nurse, or anyone else unless Fraser is signed as a #7?

We're doomed.

Translation: the UFA market is brutal yet again and we don't have a hope of getting any of the "top" talent so we need the body.

I find it simply impossible to believe that Darnell Nurse would be a worse choice than Fraser to play on the bottom pair.

Again I say, I guess we can only hope?

Would finishing 29th or 30th next year be enough to get Lowe, MacT and Eakins canned? Next year could be awesome if so.

I don't disagree. But maybe MacT is willing to let Nurse develop properly. We're going to be a lotto team again next year anyways, so why not let Nurse season a year in the AHL rather than subjecting him to utter failure with the big club?

And if it happens because the Oilers lose their top-3 goalies, 2 centers and 2 defensemen for the season, they will be fired for not keeping them healthy? Alot can happen, though I guess we just need to keep our fingers crossed and hope.

If they are planning to keep Fraser it has to be as a no.7.

That said Nurse shouldn't get any more than 9 games until he has an NHL body. The last thing we want is him requiring shoulder surgery because he took a hit that his frame wasn't physically prepared to take.

We already went through that with RNH and I'm not prepared to repeat that mistake.

No **** eh? Also , did you also forget that year wasn't the Nuge's rookie season? Geez.

Agreed, but IMO we should be bringing in an even better replacement from the outside so Nurse can develop properly and Fraser can be used only as necessary.

In a perfect world we'd find a true #1 LHD moving Ference and Marincin down a spot each, not finding a bottom pairing D to slide in underneath them.

Thank you. They should be aiming much higher than Fraser. The blueline needs major improvements.

I believe the hit he took that damaged the shoulder really badly was in his rookie year. It just continued to get worse from there to the point where surgery was no longer a non-option.

I believe, firstly that's a silly thing to worry about he could get concussed slipping on soap in the shower (guys can get hurt, that's a thing in a physical sport like hockey), that his shoulder injury pre-dates his NHL time and was only made "worse" by his injury in the NHL.

There's absolutely No reason to assume in any way he would have been "safer" if they left him in the WHL (for whatever reason), the only real argument that could be made is he should have been "shutdown" sooner, but it's not Just the team making that call.

He was an NHL player from the moment he was drafted, that doesn't change because he's struggling to find offense now.

And as it relates to Nurse, if the argument is you're worried about Nurse getting hurt and he should go back to Juniors, that's really silly. If the argument is he shouldn't be in the NHL next year, that's an actual argument that I'm sure Nurse's play in camp will have some baring on.

No offense, but I think these arguments are silly.

It was pretty clear that RNH was 'undersized' when he broke into the league playing against men twice his size.

The obvious reason for keeping him or Nurse in junior for another year is so they'd have a little more time to mature physically so they wouldn't get hurt being hit by full grown men as apposed to other junior players.

Why is that so hard to understand?

guys I would target would be

McDonagh and Yandle as trade options for likes of Eberle/Yak, Gagner, Marincin/Petry, Klefbom, any draft pick or combination of except 1st from this year or next.

Statsny, Callahan, Moss and Ott as UFA's

Resign Lander, Gazdic, Petry, Schultz, Arcobello, Pitlick, Fedun

Waive goodbye to Fraser, Belov, Jones, Smyth (Eager, Grebs, McIntyre) as UFAs

Do not qualify: Larsen, maybe Hamilton if contract number is high

Hall - RNH - Yak
Perron - Statsny - Callahan
Lander - Ott - Moss
Hendricks - Gordon - Pitlick
Gazdic - Arco

McDonagh - Schultz
Yandle - Petry/Marincin
Ferrence - Ekblad
Fedun

Scrivens
Fasth

UFA crop this year is horrible for realistic targets. Obviously signing all 3 of Statsny, Callahan and Ott is very unlikely and not fiscally possible as I am sure they all get above fair market value.
