Pronman has never been a fan of Hagens. He was talking up Frondell as 1OA right before the U18's, and then Hagens set the tournament points record. And then he shut up for one ranking. Puts him at 1OA. And then the next one he's back to finding a player he likes more than Hagens with no explanation for why. Obvious he's not a fan of Hagens.

How on earth did this happen? The only prospect that currently has a chance would be Schaefer and I still think Hagens clearly is #1 as we stand.

16 games, 16 goals, 16 assists, 6'3.

Meanwhile Hagens has been good but not quite showing the same elite level as Fantilli or Celebrini. I currently have Hagens beneath those two though there's a lot more time for Hagens to get comfortable be who he is.

Some context on the top rankings is that Pronman wasn't dead set on Martone vs Hagens but both are in his Tier 1, and his only Tier 2 player is Schaefer who he says "is possible for 1 or 2, especially because of how big the gap is to the next defenseman."

Tier 3 is only Misa and McQueen, then everyone else is Tier 4 or below.

And Martone skates well/is particularly skilled. He’s got a profile that NHL teams can’t help themselves but gravitate towards. Unless Hagens takes his season up a notch and starts getting closer to Celebrini, you’ll likely see some of the other prospect lists start putting Martone above, maybe even Schaefer and Misa too as they are also having unbelievably good seasons so far.

no Ryabkin in top 10 is pretty crazy.
All the smoke with his possible xfer to NA, and then public interviews in RU calling out his fitness and attitude, plus a poor start to the season, seems to indicate more likely "fire."

Last year and the year before, all the off-ice banter on Demidov/Michkov seemed like it could just be noise, but this feels more real. Who knows though.

4 Misa
5 McQueen

I don't know enough about 7-10 to have a strong opinion, but surprising to not see Eklund here at all, especially since he still remains relatively high on Frondell. I am personally on the side of people are way overreacting to Frondells struggles when its just based on way too many injury issues and his prolonged time to get back into shape. But its hard to not think victor Eklund deserves to be in the same tier as him right now, and not even top 10 seems absurd.

To be fair, Eklund is ranked #11.

I think most would disagree with this characterization.

I don't think they would, at least not the ones who watch Hagens this year and who are most invested.

I've made a poll to see if others have a different perspective, right now I'm hearing a lot of folk who think Hagens is a tier below those guys and would be more in the conversation that Hishier was pre draft.

We’re getting into semantics, but your poll is not what the topic in this thread is. We are talking about tier or level. You can be third (or second or first) and be on the same tier or level. A ranking doesn’t necessarily tell us the answer.

And further, your suggestion was about what he’s shown in college hockey. Otherwise, why name those two specifically? A rankings of who are the best long term prospects doesn’t really get to the heart of whether he’s played at the level of those players or not.

Semantics aside, I feel most people had Fantilli as being a much better player at the same age as Hagens, Fantilli would be first overall if he was in this draft just based off of his college play. Fantilli was on pace to be the second most points by a first time draft eligible player in NCAA history (after only Kariya). Celebrini had higher hopes than Fantilli due to a more complete play style and less competing noise.

Hagens just isn't hitting the same level of hype as those guys and isn't doing enough to earn it.
