It's a convenient company line. The fact is he took a team that struggled the whole year—one that was shortened and condensed—to the second round of that playoffs.
You state my thoughts exactly. No training camp. Especially not the one that he likes to run. A shortened season. And they exhibited guts and effort just to get to where they got to.

And a pretty sizable change to the roster.
The idiocy of this organization under Jackass is a VERY hard pill to swallow. Talk about "whatever can go wrong, will".

And again, we were given such a relatively short respite by being allowed to see an on-ice product to be proud of. A younger team. A largely home grown team. And then the gut punch, and right back to Rangers reality.

I'm at the point where everyone but Nash, Hank, Kreider, Mcdonagh and Stepan can leave via FA or in a trade

Pretty solid description of the "gut punch". Could not agree more.

simple.. no emotion, the past 2 years..

doesn't mean fighting or gritty (often helps) but just playing with a passion and with a purpose..

The more and more I think about this one point, the further I drift away from sanity. It makes me violent inside.

We took the most successful Rangers team in 15 years - a team that was young, homegrown, and growing together - and swapped a quarter of the roster with Columbus...

Are. You. ****ing. Kidding. Me.

The truly amazing part is, when you look at all the rosters in the NHL that you would take on as trading partners, since the deadline, Sather has used Phoenix and Columbus. With the possible exception of the NYI and Florida, but not necessarily so, I can't think of two franchises I'd less like to have seen reformed in NYC.

Remember the early 90's when the NYR swapped rosters with one of the most successful decades seen in the NHL, and subsequently won a Stanley Cup? How does Sather not see the obvious difference there?

Please tell me how the bottom 6 forwards trump the following:

1. Top 6 forwards that aren't scoring consistently
2. A defense that often looks lost trying to play a new style
3. A goaltender who is playing far below is standards

These things seem a bit more important, no?

1. No balance. I don't consider Brassard a top 6 forward. We lack another scorer in the top 6. We don't have the correct top 6 personnel... so we put in a bottom 6 guy as a stop gap. Our 2nd line hasn't been as dangerous as our first line at any point this year. Teams put their most defensive lines on against our first line and shut them down. You need to give help to your main guys. No consistency and balance.
2. The defense has to chip in far more often than they should because of our lack of talent. They put on a lot of responsibility to try and score, even if it means going out of position. Part of the struggles have come from them trying to do too much. Another part has been an inability to fully grasp the system. The final part is that our players skills don't align with the ideal skills for the system.
3. No argument.

Need more talent throughout. Callahan Hagelin and Brassard as a 3rd line would be fine. Instead, we have Pouloit, Boyle, and Hagelin with Brassard shifted up to the 2nd line. Sather would have more success fielding a 4th line by putting in ads in the Post.

I couldn't find a proper thread talking specifically about Marc Staal, but I was wondering about his overall play this season. I don't think I had the chance to watch him this season, but has he been playing that bad? Can we consider him an injury-prone player? I would appreciate any input. Thank You :)

This team should idolize a team like the Blackhawks who seem to bring in nobody players make them good quality players. Chicago was a dead beat basement team and put together a good team. I'll admit slather is an idiot at times but sometimes he makes good trades. Nyr needs to learn to stop trying to bring in superstars and bring in talent of all kinds example zuccarello kreider. We don't need these lower washed up veterans slather keeps bringing in

Its a lot easier to field a team when theres a core in place as good as Teows, Kane, Hossa, Keith, Seabrook.

The role players on this team wouldnt seem to stink as much if the core players didn't also kinda stink.

I honestly think that the biggest problem is Brad Richards.

Because of who he is, how he was acquired and what he's paid, he is by default a team leader. He plays an enormous role in everything the team does, how they play and, most importantly, how they act.

And, unfortunately, not only has he lost a step, he absolutely OOZES old school Rangers country club malaise. He's still got the skill and he runs the PP, so he gets his points - but even when he's scoring there is absolutely NO intensity to his game. And that **** is contagious.

I'm beginning to loathe him in the same way that I loathed Gomez.

I kinda agree...I think he's really sucked this year despite his point total. He's had a few good games here and there, but by and large hes doing nothing outside the power play.

Staal's been horrible this year. He's done as anything but a marginal player and has had three head injuries in the past two years.

At times? Have you examined his record of player moves?

More often than not, his trades are efforts to fix something that he has done and has not worked and trying to fit a round peg into a square hole. Yes, sometimes it works (Prust). But mostly, it is without a plan, rather a knee jerk reaction. Which summarizes his tenure.

Was Prust even the target in that trade? Or was he the throw in?

Sort of like Mcdonagh I don't believe was the target, but a throw in.

Anything that can go wrong, will. That sums up this whole season. The injuries, the schedule, the system change, guys that are actually good players just playing like garbage. All combine and equal an extremely mediocre season.
