Was Prust even the target in that trade? Or was he the throw in?

Sort of like Mcdonagh I don't believe was the target, but a throw in.

The target of that trade was a ticket out of NY for Gomez. Gorton and Clark advised that Sather request McDonagh in the deal and Gainey bit on it.

The whole point of that deal was to clear Gomez off the books so they could sign Gaborik, McDonagh just ended up being the prize at the bottom of the box.

I'd add Nash and Stepan to the Seeya! list. Soft, disinterested players with loserstink all over them.

I'm at the point where everyone but Nash, Hank, Kreider, Mcdonagh and Stepan can leave via FA or in a trade

I would keep Zucc as well. Nash is borderline, Stepan I dont know how you get rid of him with his potential (assuming we have a goal scorer on the team)

The biggest piece of the Gomez trade was getting rid of his contract.

That was a huge part for sure.

I'm just not sure if we should be giving Sather a ton of credit for getting mcdonagh.

Would it surprise anyone if that was just an add on and the guy he thought would be the great player was Higgins?

Same with the Prust deal. I very much believe he was just after Jokinen.

And I would think the primary target with the gaborik trade was Brassard.

The guys he 'accidentally' trades for are far better than the guys he tries to trade for

I honestly think that the biggest problem is Brad Richards.

Because of who he is, how he was acquired and what he's paid, he is by default a team leader. He plays an enormous role in everything the team does, how they play and, most importantly, how they act.

And, unfortunately, not only has he lost a step, he absolutely OOZES old school Rangers country club malaise. He's still got the skill and he runs the PP, so he gets his points - but even when he's scoring there is absolutely NO intensity to his game. And that **** is contagious.

I'm beginning to loathe him in the same way that I loathed Gomez.

Agreed. I think when he was a part of the team that really had solidified themselves as a group, it was harder for him to be an influence on the team. Now that a lot of that group is gone, it seems to me that he's taken it upon himself to fill the void that was left behind.

He's playing like a guy who looks like he knows his future is elsewhere. Last year he at least knew he had a shot of sticking around for another season.

I mentioned in the "Good Moves" thread that the Prust deal stands out because he was relatively unknown to this board and turned out the huge addition. Not sure why they can't make more moves like that.

The biggest issue is the person who signed Brad Richards.

Hard to repeat dumb luck unfortunately. Something about that trade tells me the conversation was "I want Jokinen aaaannndddd... that guy with all of the PIM's."

It's not hard to repeat dumb luck. That's what professional scouts are for.

I honestly think our pro scouting is really poor. Our amateur scouting is good, but not great. These pro scouts are supposed to have reads on players like Redden, Richards, Lisin, Wolski, Zherdev, etc, etc, etc. For all of the "trade wizardry" Sather get's praised for, how many of them actually netted us a legitimate NHL talent that had already turned pro, and then remained with the team for more than a few months?

Prust, and the big Nash/Gaborik exchange... then I think you have to go all the way back to Jagr.

Can't blame the Rangers' pro scouting for the Zherdev and Lisin trades...those were made because Paul Theofanous told Slats to do it. Sounds preposterous? Ask Brooksie some time about the inordinate influence Theofanous has over Sather. He's the guy who reported this, several years ago.

Theofanous, btw, is a total badass, black ops military style.

The agent?

Can someone else corroborate this?
