I know he is not worth the salary at this point in his career but he proved last year that he can still be a great goaltender. I am no expert on salary caps but here it goes....

To Mtl: 1 round pick in 2022, middle prospect, Koskinen, Klefbom, Sekera
To Edm: Price, Chariot

The deal would involve Mtl retaining some salary of Price's contract to insure Edm pays around 7 mil of Price's salary for the rest of his term.

I don't understand this. Can the Oilers move the buyout cap hit for Sekera? I didn't think that was possible.

Klefbom provides LTIR room but that is not exactly the same as cap relief. He isn't likely to ever play again. I really don't understand his inclusion in this trade. Is this supposed to help Edmonton or Montreal?

This proposal needs work.

I don't think you can even talk about value when the trade is this strange. Perhaps we should include a third team. The Blackhawks trade the bad mojo they currently have + a 9th round pick for Montreal's cursed magic monkey paw.

Right .. we definitely need a multi team trade to get this going for us.. so we can get Price at more then the Oilers can afford

My error on the buyout of Sekera, maybe Turris. Yes Price's salary is a big issue for Edm but it would them at least give them a change at the cup in the next 2 yrs. Yes involving a 3rd team could make sense.
And IIxGURUxII, give it a break with your comments. Involve yourself in the conversation in meaningful way but i guess as your name indicates you are the GURU!.. lol

The comment was fair, considering the base of the trade .. the amount of ongoing threads about the exact same topic.. as well as the players involved.

Sorry you were offended by my comment.

Edmonton does not need Price, especially at 7 mill.. they do not have the cap space.

Big Ben is a bottom pairing player in the Oilers roster .. I'd value him at a 2nd

Trading Klefbom ( was told yesterday would save us about noting while in ltir )
Only helps next season

Sek has not been with the team for quite some time, unless you're asking if trading buyout costs ( teams are not able to )

As for prospect ,are you looking at a B level or a possible tweener?

I actually thought my comments were more sarcastic than the poster below. But point taken, I'll try and say something more constructive.

While a great goaltender can cover up a lot of defensive mistakes and steal games, the Oilers still have the underlying issues on backend. Specifically, they aren't good enough and with various injuries they are even worse.

If the Oilers run with:

Nurse - Bouchard
XYZ - Barrie
Keith - Ceci

XYZ would have to be a really good 2nd pairing LHD. Like.. really good. Is Chiarot that guy? I have my doubts.

Price isn't going to fix the defense of the Oilers, and if Edmonton somehow did acquire him they'd have to hope he could carry the team on his back for the entire year and the playoffs. That is a lot to ask a 34 year old goaltender who is just coming out of rehab.

That's what I'm thinking ... Ben needs a solid partner to be successful... Barrie is not that partner, as he needs the same thing.

Price is an amazing player .. but at his age and contract .. he is not what the Oilers need.

Sorry to burst any bubble but Carey Price regular season stats have been horrible. Perhaps in the playoffs he would be of great use but he's not the same.

Unless he shreds that contract and goes ufa he will end his career in Montreal and probably on Robidas island in 2 years sadly.

Unless we can get Price at $5m without giving up the farm, then it’s a no-go for me. He played very well in the playoffs last year… would never take that’s way from the guy but outside of that short (but very important) stretch, he hasn’t shown anywhere close to being a $10m goalie during the past few seasons. Price has 4+ seasons remaining on that contract.

Chariot’s worth a second.

Yes, I get the Canadiens would likely just keep Price @$5m and there is no team that will retain that kind of money for 4+ years. That’s why Price is unmovable right now.

Are we forgetting that a team literally did not want price for free because of cap, age, and injury concerns?

Price with retention could be a trade asset. Price at full AAV does not have very many, if any, suitors.

So OP is saying Ken Holland can look at Carey Price, his injury history, his erratic performance, his stint in rehab, and his contract and say “That’s the guy I’m betting my job on.” I want no part of Price.

Reg season stats are horrible..............we all know what team he plays for .......
Price will be ready to waive his NTC this year...........there will be a few teams making calls for sure.....

As a Flames fan I approve the Oilers acquiring Price.

Take Chiarot out of the proposal. I don't approve that part.

Probably requires a 3rd team involved to take Barrie...

Not sure if Tampa would be interested, but...

Montreal out: Evans, Price
Montreal in: Lavoie, Turris, Ryan, Koskinen

Tampa out: Rutta (50% retained)
Tampa in: Barrie

Edmonton out: Lavoie, Turris, Ryan, Barrie, Koskinen
Edmonton in: Evans, Rutta (50% retained), Price

Habs get out from Price's long term deal, and pick up a talented prospect who's from the area

Lightning get a veteran RD powerplay specialist

Oilers get Price, a versatile 3rd liner in Evans, plus a veteran RD on an expiring contract to help offset the loss of Barrie

Depends on whether or not he look at Price’s last 6-8 years performance in the playoff and says “yeah, that’s the guy I need to make a big push come playoff time. He’ll probably be able to bail us out when we need it the most”

Chiarot is 100% getting a first round pick. Every single insider said so in the past week or so.
