Going to the game for the first time since before Covid.

Weird fact: There are only three players still on the team from late 2019: Suzuki, Armia, and Gallagher. Primeau was technically on the roster, but played only 2 games.

Not a single defenseman remains from the Habs' pre-Covid roster. Armia and Gallagher are leftovers at this point, so other than Suzuki, the forwards are almost all new.
I believe there are only 7 players left over from the team that went to the cup final and not 1 dman
Allen
Anderson
Armia
Caufield
Evans
Gallagher
Suzuki

Those first 2 lines should be fun to watch. I sort of hope that Monahan sticks on the first line to maximize his value for the deadline. Outside of Dach I think he's the only guy we have that can really keep up with Suzuki/Cole on that line.

I like the idea of trying to play Dach with Slafkovsky, Dach plays a very possession heavy game which gels more with Slaf than Suzuki/Caufield who are more about quick execution.

One thing I will watch closely is Slaf's positioning in the offensive zone while playing with a guy like Dach. I find that Anderson while he wins his battles is very unpredictable with his play selection, which makes it a tough task to create offense without the puck playing with him.

Dach wins his battles, but temporizes more, leaving time and space for his teammates. I want to see how Slaf responds to that.

Thats pretty bad against a goon squad... Injury waiting to happen.
However we have the last change, our top 6 should play against their top6. I'm just hoping that Imama is not on cocaine tonight and try to injured everyone. I think that Gignac-Bourque and Davidson will play against Ottawa checking line of Kelly-Kastelic-MacEwen.

That's the first line I think makes most sense as of now.

Good that Slaf is getting another game right after his first one. Hope to see him protect the puck and temporizing the play, drive the net. I've always wanted to see him with RHP and also Dach.

I think MSL realized Heineman is not a forecheck demon and prefers to be more of a triggerman. Interesting combo with powerhorsey. I don't think Mesar will touch the puck much.

Davidson do your thing.
2 s in Andersson its not the powerhorse, its the former 7th overall pick

Not a bad idea to have Monahan on the 1st line, he did produce over 80 points a few years ago.

Sooooo..... we are looking at something like....

Money - Suzuki - Cole
RHP - Dach - Slaf
Andy - Newhook - Gally

for regular season? I could get behind this.

Oh and Slaf is playing tonight?!?!?!?!

Geez, why do you guys care about/hate Ottawa so much? It's not like they've been relevant since 2017 and it's not like they have a lot of fans...

I went to the Senators discussion to compare and it's just conversation about their teams depth pieces.

I come here and it's all hatred/malcontent towards the sens or their fans.

Why? What has happened over the last several years for a team with no relevance or fans to piss you guys off this much?

I'd kill for a rivalry, but the hatred seems one sided.

I moved to the Ottawa area in 2014 so I definitely don't hate them, they're actually my second Canadian team now 🤣 they're like an annoying little brother you love to beat up on

Essentially every pre-season the Sens dress barely AHL calibre goons that never play in the NHL and we usually end up with someone injured because of it.

Their projected lineup has 4-5 fighters/goons in it.

This comment makes sense.
I had no doubt this was what his mindset would be. If we start struggling out of the gate he will revert to things that were working last season. The fact that Dvorak is out for a month may delay that some.
Looking at our first nine games with 6 of 9 at home and very few really weak teams the tone will be set. The road games are all tough matchups Toronto Buffalo and Las Vegas.

I'd go more
RHP-Newhook-Anderson
love this line, Anderson was the best version of himself playing with RHP last year

also I'd go
Monhan-Dach-Slaf
can't see better linemates for Slaf

and then I'd put Pearson with the duo to do the dirty work, puck battles, along the boards, front of the net...
Until we get a proper 1st line winger
