Bratt and Severson were the best players out there. Caufield and Hoffman were good in the first half but then disappeared.

I did find it interesting to see Dach going up against Bahl. There were plays where Dach would get stonewalled by Bahl doing a move that would otherwise beat anyone else.

Everything else was a mess. poor passing, slow play overall that devolved into bodies colliding instead of trying to do skill plays. So basically, it looked like preseason game#1 where nobody has played a game for 5 months.

Slafkovsky and Nemec are both similar where they are better off playing in the AHL to not ruin their development. We have high expectations for Nemec but Slafkovsky is going to be playing in a pressure cooker of a market. Both teams are in different situations though. Montreal looks to be going through the first year or two of their rebuild while we are trying to exit ours and get back to the playoffs.
Ive seen some Habs fan say they think they will be done with the rebuild and fighting for a playoff spot as early as 2023-2024 season. I mean it could happen but.....

Thought Tatar and Bahl had good games. Foote is not good and Boqvist didn't show much. Johnsson can get waived for all I care.

Holy hell at the hot takes on Slaf though. He wasn't bad tonight. He needs time to adjust and I hope Montreal's fanbase has that patience. Expectations in the big market is the only thing that makes me a little nervous with him.

He wasn't good either. He was meh.
Expectations should be high. They used a 1st overall pick on him. To not make this abysmal Habs roster says a lot about where you stand. If I were a Montreal fan I would be upset right now.
Beck looked much better imo and he was a second rounder. Again, age cannot be an excuse.

In the postgame presser Ruff said that Hischier will be fine after they use the defibrillator on him. Nothing to worry about.

Bratt was taking it easy compared to regular season play.

An example play in the first period, he got a puck near the faceoff dot, was going to drive into the slot where there was space but would have led to hard contact, he changes his mind and circles the puck back outside.

Bratt playing his hardest takes it to the slot and accepts the contact for the good chance. Preseason it doesn’t make sense to take the contact so he chose not to.
Why am I beginning to think I'm being disregarded around here?

Thanks for the reply and the interesting take.

I mean you could be right in that he decided against the possibility of hard contact but there's also the case of looking for a shot / pass to a teammate and not seeing any available so he chose to bring it out and set up. :)

He probably does this during the regular season, too, so I don't think it's uncommon.

Of course as usual, I don't get any reply ( ) so I ask the rest here who would :

What is your definition of "Full Tilt" when it comes to how Bratt performed or didn't?

Bratt looked the same as he always has and played with the same amount of effort like he did last season.

He's basically making sure his engine is already revved up and going from the get-go even if it's Preseason.

Unless you all expect him to have 3 goals and 5 assists in a game where he's playing with AHL'ers (mostly).... :help:

What do you consider "Full Tilt"?

Giving everything on every shift. Skating full speed, absorbing contact, more shake and bake and crab moves.

Don't interpret this like a bad thing. I would not expect or want a player like Bratt or Hischier or Hughes to be going all out in a preseason game. That would be dumb. The point I'm making is that, even just warming up he was the best player out there against a lot of kids for Montreal trying to make that team.

It's one game and Slaf shouldn't be in the league this year anyway. That never should've been the expectation. He's better off elsewhere for a year.

I thought Bahl was pretty solid, not nearly as physical as Ok but can shut down guys along the wall with his size, good work with that long ass reach too. He’s looked pretty good all camp.

I like Okhotiuk but he needs to just make the simple play with the puck. Instead of going up the wall he turned it over going through the middle leading to that offsides goal. He’s been trying to do too much with the puck.

Agreed with you on both accounts. I like Okhotiuk too and want to see him succeed but he's a bit too adventurous overall. I have no problem with the occasional wild card play but he tends to make that his regular play too often.

Bahl has looked nice and steady, something we could certainly use more of on defense.

Sorry , what was that you are saying ?
I don’t really pay attention when you post and usually just gloss over your trying to say

I’m kidding … I’m just trying to be funny about the bolded part of your one post

I think it's funny Slaf is being judged after one preseason game but whatever. What I want to know is how Shane Wright has looked so far and I don't want to leave this board to find out.

Glad Nico only had leg cramps last night. I’m sure he’s fine given what we know.

I also feel “cramping” will be a new meme around here somehow.

I was looking for a good, fun FICTIONAL, TOTALLY NOT REAL leg break gif for this and the first thing that pops up is the footage of the college gymnastic very visibly BREAKING BOTH HER LEGS in gif form.

It’s made me nauseous in 2019 internet and it still makes me nauseous, stop that. Bad internet, bad.

I thought Foote looked quicker. and don't agree with your assessment of his play at all. may god have mercy on your soul

ahhh was wondering who made that pass. Yeah I think Bahl is tough to lose out on the competition.. that size alone shuts things down.. our defensive pool looks really good moving forward considering Nemec and hughes getting ready... Severson situation is going to be interesting.. I mean he is now in his prime years and will be worth a ton in trade value etc. but he is a little older than the rest of the guys so is he in the long term plans? good talk
