Greene upper body injury, and Muzzin upper body injury...in the same game. Yay preseason injuries!

Christ.

And all the other teams we played are worried about US gooning it up in the preseason  I think Lucic has thrown about half a hit so far, Brown seems to have started throwing them tonight but did 100 skatebys the other night...can't wait for these guys to start crushing people but god damn the last thing we need is defensive injuries to start the season again.

So, just for fun, without Muzzin or Greene:

Doughty-Ehrhoff
McNabb-McBain
Martinez-Schultz
Forbort?

Someone get Randy Jones and Denis Gauthier on the batphone stat

Greene too? And DD thought his minutes would be shorten this season....

They would finally have to play Forbort, wouldn't they? Although even though the two would be injured, you're talking 9 D being up with the roster limit pushed to 25 for the injuries, and all 25 would count against the cap! Would the Kimgs even have space to do this (assuming Richards wins)? The alternative is to send guys down, like Forbort and Shore. You'd have two D scratches, both injured, and 1 F scratch. And also send down one of the forwards you didn't want to expose to waivers. It sucks not having cap space when the injury bug creeps in. Let's hope they are fine.

Someone fill me in on the context of this quote by Sutter on Muzzin's injury.
On the severity of Jake Muzzin’s injury:
It’s a new year, it’s not new rules. It’s the same rule.

Dirty hit?

could be a blessing in disguise

it'll force us to play one of Forbort/Gravel

or even pick up a D on waivers

maybe even sign one of:

J. Hejda
L. Visnovsky
S. Hannan
K. Cumiskey
T. Gleason
M. Fraser

i'd like to see LA go after Hejda or Cumiskey:

Doughty - Ehrhoff
McNabb - Forbort
Hejda - McBain
Cumiskey
Schultz

:help:

If only there was a player on the top line that could be a difference maker and score a goal. Can't put my finger on it, but it sounds like a foreign concept.

Don't worry toward the end of January the guys will flip that switch just like last year.

Still think Pearson - Carter - Toffoli will be the Kings most productive line offensively.

Just cause you've heard of these players doesn't make them good.

i know

but still an upgrade over Greene

Cumiskey held his own in the playoffs for the Hawks (albeit 8-10 mins per game) and Hejda can eat up big minutes (he's use to 20mins but 15-17mins would be pretty good)

but for what it is, this is pretty much the best we can do on the FA

i don't know what a 39 year old Visnovsky can do at this point, i doubt it'll be much even though he and Hejda are having a great pre-season with the Hawks right now

maybe Hejda could be an ok fit with the Kings, i'm pretty convinced that he'll do better than Greene/Schultz/McBain, although to be fair McBain wasn't that bad last season

have you heard of Jeff Schultz?

Tell you what… he played a heck of a game tonight. His puck moving was much better than I remembered. Wouldn't be that concerned if we started Schultz in the 3rd pairing. I see him and Greene as a lateral move.

Halfway through game 81 in Calgary - "Their finger is on that switch!"

Lotta people crapping on Greene but I would take him over just about any other #6 defenseman in the league. Veteran stay at home right handed punishing d-man, what else do you want from that slot? I think he'll find more consistency in health from the overall d and less minutes than last year. We need Martinez to be a 2nd pairing guy all year this year in play if not in actual role; he was great until his bell got rung. Ehrhoff I think will benefit if he has a designated role--pens fans seem to think he was misused as just a shutdown guy but he was good at that, just oft-injured. If we get last year's McNabb I'm not worried, but right now, color me worried, and McBain shouldn't even sniff this lineup as far as I'm concerned, but if we need a PMD, he's there, just ugh. And Schultz has proven in limited action he can just eat minutes and space so that's fine.

I'd love to see Forbort or Gravel get in on that but similar to last year I can't imagine Sutter wanting THAT much inexperience on defense...or at least that much suck, i.e. who would he be playing with, haha.

Like I said, I think DL makes a move for a clear-cut #3-#4 guy if Ehrhoff and McNabb don't look great. And remember, if we're a real contender, we need them to be more than serviceable, because I'm certain they'd be serviceable. DL wants to build from the back out is what I was always led to believe.
