Gotta up the head snapping count before the season starts guys. I'm looking at you Brownie

Wish we would have gotten a look at Ehrhoff tonight. Only guy outside Muzzin that looked good enough for a second pairing was Martinez

Dl gonna have a tough call on who to keep and who to cut IMO. No one really pulling away from the crowd but weal out there at the end says something to me. Edit id say weal
Easily over the others but I'm biased. And I wasn't saying either forbort or gravel was bad just think gravel was steadier

especially early on, I liked Gravel too.

I wonder if there is any chance we see McBain play himself out? Doubt it...

Boo. Officials took it away, Kings couldn't get it back. Chased the game for 40 minutes, and the last 20 were just playing it out. Everybody seemed to be on structure, which is OK?

Weal impressed me. I thought Forbort did well getting a couple of shots through.

Agreed. And I made food so I probably missed some too... but what little I saw, I was not blown away by.

Seemed to over react and/or lose the puck easily. We'll have to see more/give Randford a chance to lay hands on him.

Actually, I think it's easier than you make it appear. It's Weal and Forbort's positions to lose. Not only are these two out of options, but have performed best out of the group of prospects thus far.

Now if someone other than these two were to light it up, then, I think DL would have a tougher decision to make.

Forbort isn't out of options...he can go down to the AHL without hitting waivers.

Forbort also made some nifty passes out of the zone, he needs to be stronger on the puck when pressured though. I like his upside way more than McNabb. McNabb looks like the Muzzin of 2013 without any of the offense.

True to some degree, but look at it this way. I think it's fair to assume the following are concrete amongst the forwards:

Lucic-Kopitar-Gaborik
70s
King-(vacant?)-Brown
Clifford-(vacant?)-(vacant?)

One of those spots is obviously Lewis. Are the others necessarily Shore and Weal? I don't think Andreoff sticks, neither with Mersch yet. What about Nolan? I don't think it's set in stone. Those guys are mostly fighting over two spots.

D is a little crazier with how iffy the second pairing can be, but beyond Muzzin-Doughty-Martinez-Greene, McNabb, Ehrhoff, Forbort, Gravel, McBain are fighting over spots it seems.

Don't get me wrong, I have my ideas on who they are and should be, but let's not forget the organization stuck with Andreoff instead of Weal last year, amongst other things--so I don't think it's cut and dry based on what our eyes are saying at this point.

Is it just me or is that D looking good enough that Lombardi can start looking for trade options for Doughty! :naughty:

Edit: Glad to see the team pull together and hit the penalty quota for the game. Was worried about who was going to help out after losing Stoll

Perhaps they preferred to percolate Weal in a top 6 role in the narchs. He seems to have a lot more offensive upside than Andreoff, who seems more grit than finesse, but doesnt seem to bring a lot of either at the moment.

I think mainly because he wasn't waiver exempt. But yeah, we're seeing some obvious things play out his camp and AA hasn't done the same things he did last season during camp. It's still early but that pass by Weal to Lewis shows something AA lacks and never will have.

Weal's hockey IQ and skills makes up for the size he lacks. Andreoff's size doesn't make up for his lack of IQ and skills he has.

Weal didn't seem to be any smaller than Richards to me. Could be my game day drinking is still in pre-season mode though.

This is my exact point.

Lombardi stuck with AA over Weal last year, because AA was out of options. This year, I believe only Weal and O'Neil are out of options (please someone correct me if I'm wrong). So, with Weal being out of options, and performing well, one of the spot's his to lose. Now for the remaining spot, it'll probably be O'Neil/Shore/AA or one of Forbort/Gravel. Knowing Deano, and thinking about his previous moves, I'm thinking DL's going to take a chance on waiving O'Neil and keeping AA around, since he's the only one out of options. This move is similar to the one in which DL waived Hickey in order to keep Ellerby. Deano likes his boys BIG.

The thing is, with our ahl affiliate being just an hour away, even if the guys were to return to ontario, it'll have an entirely different feeling than being sent to manchester.
