Am I the only one who thinks Carter is gonna have an off year because BFF Richards is no longer on the team? I'm sure someone has already mentioned this. Not saying this because of this game or anything just thinking out loud.

I think Carter and Richards being best friends has been overexaggerated since they came to the Kings. Carter will be fine.

That's what I said. I like him well enough, but he doesn't do one thing better than anyone else. He's basically a less experienced Clifford. Just a redundant part. Nice to have depth I suppose.

I'll add to this because my coffee is still brewing :D

He's not smart enough to be elite defensively--when was the last time you saw him hit someone that wasn't already engaged or flatfooted in the corner?--hence his positioning being good but not great (he never beats anyone to a play). He's a good PKer, good offensive instincts. Not good on the wall--in fact, I'll say he's risky on the wall in that he either comes out cleanly with the puck (where he's pretty good) or he flat out loses his battle and any contact with his check so they can make a clean play and he gets caught on the wrong side of the play. That's the major beef I have with him. That's fixable, I suppose. Good shot, but we rarely see it; not a good playmaker so not great in possession (Clifford has him soundly beaten here, he's not flashy but can make good, protected passes on the cycle and in the neutral zone).

Anyway, just my musings. Like I said I like him well enough but he doesn't beat anyone out in my eyes, though the organization may like him enough in his role to snag a depth spot.

Just started watching the game. How have Weal and Mersch looked thus far ?

Amongst our best players imo. Mersch is using his size to protect well and going to the net, Weal has the puck glued to his stick when he has it and is always in great position, stronger there than I would have imagined.

Ack. You bet the Ducks are living right. But for the officials, the Kings are carrying the play all night.
