I'm curious of what people thought of the special teams last night? That's the first time they have been executed after some practice time. Ehlers in the bumper? 2nd PP got both goals. I have to say I like the look of Miller on his shooting side, and two righties playing the top. Pionk made a real nice board play against two players to keep the puck alive on Lambert's goal. Lambert looks very poised on the PP, and that's without Perfetti on that unit. Is Perfetti better suited for the bumper spot on the 1st PP?

Hard to measure PK against AHL PP, but Morrissey played over 4 minutes on the PK. Is that something we might see again, put the best players out on the ice?

It's so hard to read much of anything from special teams with that level of comp. A real PK unit doesn't give us that time and space to execute.

What I did see is the bumper has more freedom to move on the pp to switch things up. It's something Cole did when he was in that spot last year.

I don't think there's a shot.

He'd have to start in the top 6 and unless he dazzles in his last chances in exy that's not happening.

The problem is, the Jets need a center in the top 6. If they were looking for a winger, I'm thinking he'd have a much better shot.

They won't start him in the bottom 6 as I think we are loaded there and would likely end up losing someone if we gave him that spot.

I see him being the first option on the farm if anyone in our top 6 goes down, which I actually prefer.

If one of the young guys was going to be an extra I'd prefer it to be Chibrikov as I think he's got a more pro ready game and could probably adapt to playing bottom 6 .

I do think Gus and Kupari will be given every chance to succeed this year, then you add Anderson Dolan and I just don't see how the kids get a spot.

Well the practice groupings reflect your thoughts. Both Lambert and Chibrikov have been moved over to the AHL/junior group.

The main group is down to 14 forwards now which probably gives you a good idea which way they are leaning.

Salomonsson still up with the main group, but that might be due to Stanley being absent.

This might be cray cray but if they are keeping one of the AHL guys on D at this point I'm picking Kuzmin or Lundmark over Salmo - I think he needs at least a season of NA pro to get acquainted

Any update on Stanley’s absence? Injury? Personal? Potential trade?
I'm not a Stan hater by any means but a trade would open up some interesting developments on the backend. I think we have some pretty solid depth, especially for 6-7

I'd agree with that. Probably juat want him to get reps with our best dmen so he can get some pointers. He absolutely needs AHL seasoning.

I like that both the PP and the PK showed something different

As you said, it's too early in the process to know exactly how the results will be but I'm encouraged by the fact that there is change

I'm not sure if there's a downside to sending Salo to the Moose for at least a stretch (aside from causing a bunch of posters here to accuse the Jets of "mishandling" him)

He's young, it's his first year in NA and he needs to acclimate to both a new lifestyle and a different style of play. It's a lot less pressure to do both at the AHL level. That's exactly why we have the Moose

I liked that we saw more movement and switches on the pp. How much of that is still in play when the regular season starts will be the key for me on of the pp is truly different this year.

Forgot there was a scrimmage last night so I turned on the tv, watched for about 2 minutes in the second saw the two line ups and bailed.

Good for the A listers to get a few reps and get the rust off before they start the season I guess.

It annoyed me that they started PP1 so good and the second part they stopped moving again. I'm hoping that it's just muscle memory and the new coaches can get it out of them.

I also liked that PP2 had a more direct approach, I think Miller on that second PP and his shot threat could help them be more effective

I quite enjoyed watching last night. It was fun to suspend reality and imagine that this was just how dominant we would be this year haha

Tip of the hat to you for finding joy in it (sincerely)

I just can't get into it with the mismatch but I shouldn't be a buzz kill.

Loved the comments about Neal at the end - really high praise and talking about the nightmare he faced last year - and healing over the summer.

Really encouraging stuff.
I like that Arniel doesn't sound like a rookie coach as the training camp progresses. He has expectations, and he has made some adjustments, accordingly. I like hearing that he is taking input from other coaches, and there is a sense that he has a connection with his players. I think there was a lot of initial apprehension in his hire, but the transition might be smoother having someone who already knows the characters in the room.

The guy has a lot of experience and I'm sure he learned a lot from his first go around as an NHL head coach. Many coaches do much better their second time around.

I also liked him quite a bit when he coached the Moose.

I think as fans it's easy for us to forget that these guys are human beings, and relatively young men at that

I'm sure that if any of us lost our best friend (let alone in an extremely tragic, graphic and public way) it would affect our job performance for at least a period of time

It was a contender vs a sparing partner. Can't really read much into any of it. It was fun to watch.

Biggest thing for me was KK having a good night in goal.

Kupari made a real nice play on Pionk's goal. Gus looked good. Lundmark looked steady.

So much for the improved analytics approach that Arniel talked about earlier. Looks like they are going to run it with the same group in the same deployment and finish in the wild card and lose in 5 or 6 in the first round and the front office will wonder why it happened again. Yes I know is preseason but this is the Jets after all. And if there is one thing about the Jets is that they love to repeat history no matter what can be learned from it.
All that from a preseason game. Lol

I don't think the Jets can sustain too many injuries on defense. Heinola's injury might be Lundmark's opportunity. Fleury is going to get some action down the stretch, I think there is still a battle to be had.

If Big Stan is injured, imagine that, already testing the depth two deep...If he's healthy I'd put Fleury on IR for 2 weeks to start the season, just to give him some time around his family, and get some more practice time in...I think teams might be aggressive on the waiver wire, and the Jets can't afford to lose too many d-men this year.

You can't just put people on the IR that you want to. They have to be legit injured.

Well unless your the Golden Knights that is 😜

Have you ever played hockey?

There are so many unwritten rules and codes that you seem to not know exist

Running up a score in a preseason game with a stacked line up vs an AHL line up is one of them. Arniel wouldn't have even had to tell those guys to take the foot off the gas. They would have known

Had they kept going hard at them, one of our star players would be injured right now and justifiably so
Wait... you think they didnt run up the score? Were we watching different games?

They scored when they had chances, but they didn't go out of the way to generate chances

I think in a game like that, if I'm Edmonton I'm OK with a guy like Lambert (who is trying to make the team) sniping one. The lowry goal you'll notice there was no celly or fly-by

If you have an open net or a good look like that, it's more insulting to turn away and not score than to just put it in

I think any of us that have played, coached or had kids who play have had games like that. They're hard to navigate, but you do your best to not show up the other team. Obviously trying too hard is disrespectful, but so is not trying at all
