I see his floor as Sheldon Souray, style wise. Probably won't score 20/year, but 10-15 should be regularly attainable.

He's so much better with the puck and a much better skater too. Defense is just as iffy, but he's just getting started as a pro. Both are mean.

The only reason people talks about hockey IQ is because last year he had to adjust to the size of the rink and the pace, sometimes he looked lost because of that but now he looks way better with his positioning and looks more comfortable. Now that it’s getting better he can show his vision.
He's got a ton of small things to work on. Case in point Anderson makes a nice move using a spin-o-rama and gets a deceptive back hand on goal. Slaf is open and going to the net but slightly ahead of the play. He does a fly by instead of stopping up and isn't there for an easy tap in when the goaltender can't handle the rebound. If he continues to play with Anderson he'll soon learn that Anderson's strength is getting the puck to the net. One of the reasons Anderson doesn't mesh that well with Suzuki or Caufield is because neither of their games is about going to the net. He'll learn or eventually lose his spot to a player like RHP who will constantly go to that area.

Slaf did well to get the puck a few times but he didn't do so well with it and skated himself out of room.

Mailloux looked good on offense, except that he didn't stop the puck at the offensive blue line. It's normal to miss some dumpouts but as an offensive D he needs to keep the play in the zone at least some of the time. Maybe I just saw the ones he missed.

Funny enough, he has the opposite problem of another Bobrov pick in Kappo Kakko, whose short stick makes him a puck possession menace but his shot has no torque and thus posses no threat.
Sometimes it's the lie of the stick and not necessarily the length. Caufields stick is short he has no issues. :sarcasm:

Maybe Kakko just can't shoot a puck. I used to cut my stick just under my nose when in street clothes so it came just around my chin on skates. When my top hand was in a natural position my stick blade was perfectly flat on the ice.

Not everyone can play in the best league. Condotta is one of those guys who can make a decent living playing in lower leagues. Houle loves him.
Stephens was good for Laval last year too but had a rough go in this one. I can't wait to dump a truck load of players so we can start working on some structure and god help us our special teams. I wasn't a fan of 70+ players last year and I'm not a fan of 70+ players this year.

Pretty interesting game. Man, it's really hard to project the forwards. The defense there are a couple battles to watch, but it seems more straightforward. But the forwards it's really hard to tell. Do they keep Roy or Beck? Ylonen? So many guys I have questions about, and there are only maybe 14 spots. Should be fun seeing how it goes!!

There will definitely be fighting for spots comjng into the start of the season too seeing as Dvorak is injured. That means Beck comes in or if they deem him not to be suitable they keep Dach and Newhook at centre with Evans and Suzuki, and put someone like Roy in the lineup until Dvo comes back.

To me the Newhook pickup kind of sealed the fates of both Farrell and Mesar with the Habs. Obviously things can change so we’ll see how it shakes out. I also don’t see a future with Harris here which hurts because I really like him. These guys are NHL players I just don’t think its here with what we have in the pipeline.

I'm secretly hoping it's Xhekaj-Maiiloux too lol
I'm just so damn curious what they'd look like together

Honest everyone did pretty well, Mailloux got caught once but other than than was impressive, but I still think he is better off playing top minute in the AHL. Reinbacher was very good and efficient. Barron and Harris where good.
Ghule didn’t have a great game by his standards but wasn’t bad either. Xhekaj probably was of the worst D on the ice keep drifting to the puck forgetting to cover is side of the ice or out of position to make hits, when the plays slows down or when he isn’t direct involved it seem hard for him.
Upfront everyone had some flashes but not sure anyone trying to make the team really made a great case. Yolonen and Pezz who are probably fighting for 13th FW didn’t really stand out vs. guys that should start in the AHL. Slaf was good retrieving puck passing, but still seem a little hesitant need to keep is feet moving and shot earlier… Beck stood out positively

Farrell more then Mešar, but I tend to agree.

These are top6 players and we acquired Newhook to join Caufield, Suzuki, and Dach. Doesn’t leave much room for the undersized.

If the smaller players can make good separation with a strong leg drive perhaps there is hope yet, but otherwise they’ll have to be very very good at everything in order to get a shot. We’ll see — hopefully Hughes manages his assets well.
