TSN: Preds listening to offers on Saros.

Benchmark..

Ryan Miller was traded as a rental . He was around 34 when traded at 2014 deadline…

Miller+Ott for Halak+Stewart+ 2015 1st+ 2016 3rd ( with conditions)+ Carrier ( 2013 2nd round pick)

he was traded for one playoff, not 2.

the 3rd would have been a 1st if he was resigned/ won cup.

the price is likely 2 1sts+2 2nds or equivalent.

If the Oilers had the assets and cap space, this would be a great target.

Unfortunately, enter Jack Campbell and his ridiculous contract.

The same assets we need to land Saros are the same assets we would have to attach to Campbell to get rid of his contract.

Do both. The farm is totally empty -- When McDavid and Draisaitl age or leave it's over anyway. The Oilers should probably be moving 3-4 1sts for someone, whether it's Saros or a top-pairing defender.

Ignoring valuations, what's Nashville's big plan long term? Josi's 33 currently and Forsberg and Saros are closing in on 30 as well. They aren't the defenseman factory they were in the 2010s and their drafting has been pretty suspect. When does this bubble team get back into the conversation? Or is this a market that can't handle a complete teardown rebuild?

From a Devils POI, i would be willing to give up Mercer for Saros if they want a young forward as opposed to picks.
Nashville will need to take Vanecek as part of the deal.
Yeah that would probably be the best offer that any Devils fan could stomach. Would kinda be funny to have the preds get Mercer when the Sharks couldn't get him in the Meier trade.

Different times though and the Devils are more desperate as they lost one season to goaltending two years ago and they don't want to experience it again.

Doubt we have the assets… as you have pointed out… the farm is empty and I’m not sure a 1st Rounder 4 years from now is going to move the needle for many teams… although, by then, if aren’t able to extended Drai &/or McDavid… those firsts could be very valuable.

The next 4 first rounders and Campbell for Saros, lol.

I would do it if Nashville would take prospects and picks, like Bourgault, Holloway, 2 firsts and Campbell, but I am sure some other team would make a good offer without the anchor going with.

Bourgault and Holloway aren't really prospects at this point and have nearly no value. As far as I can tell, Edmonton has no non-roster assets of any kind but draft picks.

Just look at how well that trade worked out for the Blues.

Yeah, bad example to use unless the moral is don’t pay that much lol.
