WC: Predictions for the 2025 WC

Canada - Sweden final, with Canada winning. USA third.

Finland and Switzerland, along with the Czechs, should follow in some sort of order. Maybe the Germans sneak in.

The Czech D is a bit shaky and compared to last year, the crucial goal keeper position is much weaker. That fills me with little confidence for Czech prospects in the quarter finals.

Single game elimination is how they might not win. In a best of 3, etc yeah I don't see how Canada wouldn't win gold but in a one game run off anyone can be beat over just 3 periods of hockey.
100% but we are looking at heroic goalie efforts, a weird bounce and a bad call. Something tells me when they 'dig in' it will get ugly. In a good way. I loved the 2015 team. Juggernauts are fun. Till you play them.lol

they are the clear favourite and rightly so but like you said a hot goalie, bad bounce here an there, I've seen a lot of favourites go down here too from just not playing all that well against a motivated squad for the first period and a half and then they are down by 2 goals and they turn it on but can never get the tying goal or lose it in overtime or a shootout.

Shit happens, this is a unique and tough tournament to win, 2015 type teams are the exception not the rule at the WHC.

Are the Power rankings supposed to be funny?

I thought they were funny/clever.

They try at least a little, but I don't think they're really going for anything more than "mildly amusing maybe" and sometimes use references that can be a little obscure. They could make probably make them a lot funnier, but doing so might come across as trashing on the lower-ranked teams, and "proper media" (or whatever) doesn't normally go for trashing on teams.

My guess is that a pissed off USA team could be a real challenge.

They would be for sure. I still see some of their fans complaining about lack of participation from their players and it's silly, they have more talent on hand here then 98% of the teams at this thing, it's a matter of finding the combination to the lock at this tournament that is their problem, it certainly isn't talent. If they get it together as a team they are a serious threat, why shouldn't they be? it's an nhL loaded high skilled team.

We've just seen our country underachieve with such regularity at this tournament that, to speak for myself, I never expect the team to accomplish much of anything here no matter how strong our roster looks on paper. We've always had enough to skate by on pure talent to never really be at legitimate risk of getting relegated (at least since I've started watching), but I think that back when the tournament had two group stages with the first one being four groups of four and the last place teams playing in a relegation round, we managed to get bumped to the relegation round once, but we still weren't really at risk of getting relegated.

I understand the frustration and it is warranted, Having said that they will will break through one of these years, maybe this year , too much talent on hand now not to.

It's one of our strongest rosters "on paper" in recent years, but I still never underestimate the ability of our team to underachieve at this tournament. I'm not sure if we've ever even made it to the gold medal game, since the last time we won anything better than bronze was in 1960, before our emergence as a hockey power, and that was on a technicality since the Olympics that year doubled as the world championships, also the format was that places were determined only by a round robin. Only gold at a "standalone" tournament was 1933... and I guess I'm wrong from earlier actually; that tournament had semifinals and medal games.

Last silver was 1956. Final rankings were from round robin games only. (edit) That one was also when the Olympics doubled as the world championships for the year.
